What's For Dinner #27 - 11/2017 - the Giving Thanks Edition

It looks like you have seared the top of those eggs, yet the yolks are still IN the whites. How is this possible? Have you found a way to negate gravity?

Haha! They are cut in half seared cut side down.

Yet another bizarre hospital day… I arrived at 7:45 after my 45 minute bus ride and didn’t get home until 4:15pm. All things beyond the staff’s control, and they did treat me very well, but this was a long time no food [unless you count the 8 mini pretzels.] The kitchen was being cleaned. There was no way I was making a dinner. Heck, I didn’t even have ingredients for a dinner.

Ordered some food from the Himalayan kitchen. We first asked for the Nepali Thali, but they won’t pack that up for take out. Since I had some oatmeal bread that had to go into oven [see? what a day!] it wasn’t a good night to go sit in their space. So we changed our order to samosa, bara, and goat curry. We have never had their samosa before. This was a vegetarian version with what I think was a paste of mushrooms, potatoes, and spices. The dough was richer than ones I have had in the past. The tamarind chutney was very good. Not too sweet. I have never had a Bara before. They call it a lentil cake with homemade gravy. It reminded me, in terms of construction, of a Chinese Scallion Pancake. It was definitely pan-fried, but not using much oil. The gravy was a simple medley of legumes that had been braised. This was good, but not craveable. Certainly a more nutritious option that their Naan. The star was the goat curry, as it should be. The meat is still on the bone. There are hunks of fat. And you work your way creating the edible chunks which are swimming in a delicious and complex sauce. When we finished our dinner, there was not a drop of sauce left in the container. And the chef sent home his wonderful green soup for me. He knows that I love it and had just finished making a big pot. Lucky me!

Moved into the new house today. Double door stainless steel fridge with an ice maker. Washer and dryer. Garbage disposal and dishwasher. I never had any of these amenities except for a washer and dryer outside at the old house . Turning all the lights on seeing how stuff works in this empty house for now. What’s better for dinner then a bottle of French rose, and a frozen pepperoni Red Baron pizza.Cheers.

I really just wanted those mushroom dumplings from Beyond Sushi tonight, i have been craving them and got an order to go with a side of their kimchi. Once home i made a miso broth since (as usual) my apartment was chilly and hot liquids help. Added some cubed smoked tofu, scallions and the mushroom dumplings. I had snacked on the kimchi as an appetizer. Seriously there is mushroomy magic inside of those things!
I’ll probably make myself some hot chocolate (almond) milk for dessert-aka a reason to have a pile of whipped cream on top since i discovered a coconut milk whipped cream in a can that is totally rocking my world ;))

Haha, you can leave a message to let him know, that you want more videos.

Half my office will take tomorrow off , the rest of us will leave early, so of course today became The Day Of Urgent Crisis!!
I am SO ready to just unplug and regroup some life energy for a few days here…
worked late, had some crispy black edamame as a snack so i didn’t have a hangry fit at my boss who i generally get along great with but was on my Last Nerve (and he knew it too!)
Pulled some semi mysterious homemade lentil soup from the freezer that had a ton of veggies but not much broth- or lentils for that matter… i stirred in a spoon of pesto and topped it with some fresh scallions. Kombucha a la carte. There’s part of a fancy dark chocolate bar that i found in the freezer thawing on the counter, we’ll see if that sounds good with tea or i’ll chop it and make a dark hot chocolate for dessert
