Sri Lankan Deviled Shrimps (Milk Street Magazine) and Oven-Roasted Broccoli - shrimps are quickly marinated with turmeric, salt and pepper before seared and removed from the pan. Red onions, serrano chili, curry leaves, ginger, garlic are sautéed before the shrimps, some diced tomatoes, soy sauce, some sugar and red pepper flakes are added. Finished with some scallions.

The technique for the oven-roasted broccoli was from an ATK book and very simple but we really liked the result - preheat oven to 500Fwith a sheet pan in it. Cut broccoli in wedges, mix with some olive oil, s&p and sugar and put it directly on the sheet pan and roast for 11 minutes.

Everything was served over rice

Thank you, it really was delicious. Two of my favorite dishes in one meal

As for the acronym, I see @ottawaoperadiva already replied to you

I’d made the suggestion to turn @GretchenS’ lovely and very helpful acronym list into a sticky, so it could easily be found at the top of the Cooking category, but I was evidently the only one who thought this might be a great idea :woman_shrugging:t2:

Here it is in its full glory, plus several more added in the comments (you can ignore the meta discussion).

Maybe you can bookmark it to have easier access?

's ok. Saved me TPSTOM(oney)

Yesterday was another super-sunny & warm summer day, the morning of which I spent driving my lovely client to various appointments, then picking up a bunch of groceries for our lamb feast today :star_struck:

As for WWFD last night, I was able to talk my singer friend into joining me at the cocktail bar, where my boo was meeting with grad students & I didn’t want to be bored shitless :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

After both my gal and the students had left, my PIC and I split the very good arugula salad with steak and random fries.

I started the evening with a French 75 and ended it with a martini.

A great way to spend Fun Money, i.e. my random poker winnings from Saturday.

Dinner tonight was a panzanella. It calls for croutons which I normally make myself so I bought a baguette on my way home from my lunchtime walk to make said croutons. But since the bread was fresh I just cut off a couple of slices and used it to mop up the dressing.

Dinner tonight at Brine Oyster Bar in Newburyport with a couple of friends was nice!

I had a glass of Austrian Gruner Veltliner, and I’m afraid I don’t remember the cocktails the ladies had.

We started with Pork Croquettes with a tomato agrodolce and citrus herbs…one each, and they were amazing!

For the main, I had the Hake with leek puree, asparagus, caulilini, fava beans, and a mushroom beurre blanc (could have given me more caulilini and fava beans and left off the asparagus).

And the others had an enormous Chicken Schnitzel with mushrooms, chicory, sherry, and a pistachio vinaigrette,

and a Mixed Greens Salad with avocado, grapefruit, snap peas, pistachios and grilled tuna.

For dessert, one had an Espresso Martini, and we shared the Pavlova with meringue (a bit too hard to break into, but once we did it was very good!), rhubarb curd, pistachio, basil, Chantilly cream, and poppy seeds. Could have sworn it was strawberry, not rhubarb!) (Pistachios seem to be the “It” ingredient this Spring!)

A lovely meal and a lovely time.

We hosted our big lamb feast for 6 friends tonight. We had a nice spread of mezzedes — TJ’s dolma & gigantes, and my melitsanosalata with walnuts & feta,

which we had on the patio along with bubbly rosé and G&Ts.

The smaller shoulder was used for my PIC’s aMAZing youvetsi,

the big’un grilled low & slow on the Primo after being slathered with anchovy paste & stuffed with garlic slivers and rosemary sprigs.

I made maroulosalata with feta & tzatziki, both of which got snarfed up entirely.

The grilled shoulder was pull-apart tender & absolutely delicious, thanks to the lovely advice I got from a few HOs on this thread. I was reminded of my first ever whole lamb grilled on a beach in Santorini in the early 80s. So flavorful, with crispy fatty bits & a wonderful char!

Our Lebanese friend brought date cookies and sesame cookies for dessert.

A lovely evening with good food & great company. We’ll have to fast until Sunday after this gluttony.

I found a pound of mushrooms on clearance, when I brought them home Sunshine wanted another pizza. I told her I’ll use 1/2 for a pizza tomorrow and 1/2 for a quiche tonight – a deal was struck!
Brat, Onion & Mushroom Quiche – really tasty and filling!!
