Dinner tonight was a panzanella with croutons this time. I could spend the rest of my natural life alternating between panzanellas and Greek salads and I would be a happy camper.
I’m that way during the summer months, but when it’s snowing outside I need a warm meal ![]()
Looks great!
Same here. It went up to 24 Celsius today so it’s definitely salad weather - for today. Apparently it’s gonna cool down tomorrow ![]()
Well, today was more eventful than I expected. Best laid plans, and all that.
Went down to the South Shore for a visit today with my sister and BIL, although HE had gone up to split wood at their cabin in Maine! So he missed out on the the lovely company of ME.
Pffffttt. And he’ll have to open his belated birthday present when he gets back home tomorrow.
Sis and I headed out for a quick antique trip…and got bumped in the rear in a 3 car crash. I immediately called 911 because I knew what had happened behind us was bad after hearing it a second before the middle car hit us. Response was quick: 4-5 police, 2 ambulances, and 1 fire truck were there VERY quickly after I explained to 911 what I saw after getting out of my sister’s car. (These were the other two cars…the red SUV hit us after the gray Civic plowed into them.) Yay for Stoughton emergency response!
WE are fine; we were just bumped. (Sister’s Infiniti back bumper will have to be replaced.) But the other two cars were totaled. The girl who caused the accident (Honda Civic ran into an SUV, which then ran in to us) was able to get out of her car after airbags went off with the help of an NP who stopped. She was very shaken up with some minor scrapes from the airbag and seatbelt, but said she was OK. (We told her to be aware of the after-pain she’ll feel tomorrow morning and later.)
After everything was documented, we went on our way. Nothing antiquey was purchased, but watermelon sorbet was bought by my sister at Crescent Ridge in Canton. ![]()
My dinner had already been decided: pasta with sautéed veg in a garlic-herb cheese sauce. I used some new to me Sophia Cinque Buchi pasta (thanks, HG!). Sautéed asparagus, carrots, onions and red bell pepper were tossed with the cooked pasta and veg. Sauce was President garlic and herb cheese, heavy cream, buttermilk and lots of extra dried oregano, basil, thyme, and parsley.
Side salad of chopped Romaine and cherry tomatoes, with a Buttermilk Ranch Peppercorn dressing.
There was wine. Yeah. There WAS WINE.
Glad you and sis are OK!!
After a lil kitchen cleanup we took the Vespa downtown to check out the annual APIDA Festival, which has been growing steadily over the last couple of years ![]()
The only two food trucks on site (Persian and a modern Indian) didn’t appeal — plus we were still stuffed TBH, but we saw a fun dance performance by a Sri Lankan troupe from NJ, as well as many stunning, festive outfits in the crowd, and even bumped into 2 of our guests from last night!
A nice afternoon surprise was one of my chile heads stopping by to drop off half a loaf of freshly baked seeded sourdough. He’d mentioned a couple of days ago that he would do so, but of course I’d completely forgotten about it
! Absolutely delicious & still warm from the oven. I love our friends ![]()
Plans to meet up with another friend for afternoon beers followed by dinner at casa lingua & possibly a movie fell through, as he’s come down with something we def do not want.
And so, it’s just us two loveboyds enjoying leftovers & a quiet night in. I’ll admit I was a bit sad the tzatziki was all gone, but at least we had plenty of lamb, youvetsi, and melitsano.
I wanted to augment our meal with a microscopic horiatiki, for which I had to send my boo out bc we were low on flavor bombs.
He got back just before the rainstorm
, which will cool down temps significantly.
Probably more honey mangos for dessert later.
Yikes! Terrifying! Glad you and sis are alright, and you totes deserve that wine — sure you don’t want a stiffer drink than that???
I’m glad everyone emerged unscathed. Scary.
Beautiful day today. We had friends over and grilled burgers. I made potato salad and grilled asparagus and baby zucchini to go along with, and tots for the kids. With bubbly cocktails we had harissa red pepper hummus (made with cashew cream because I discovered I was out of tahini), crudite, and chips and salsa. The burger bun dough that I pulled from the freezer was a total flop; I finally admitted defeat and ran out for potato buns. They brought a salad of mixed greens with candied pecans, apples, and poppy seeds. So nice to just be with good friends.
Brownie ice cream sundaes for dessert.
Two healthy pours did the trick. Thankfully we were OK, and went on our way after the police were done taking all our information, so we were able to calm and relax and enjoy the rest of our day. Roads are packed and BUSY all around Boston for Monday’s Marathon and the Monday reenactment of the Battle on Lexington Green, so a bit crazy driving home, but I made it unscathed.
We enjoyed another sensational dinner at Cafe Panache, in Ramsey, NJ, including excellent crispy rice cracker crusted tuna; endive, apple and roquefort salad; outstanding lamb and feta agnolotti; panko crusted halibut with wasabi sake sauce; garlic shrimp; octopus. It all went great with a couple of excellent cabernets. The menu at the end gives more details.
The luck of the Irish was with you
.
Burger. Double patty, double cheese, cheddar and comte, dill pickle and mustard on a ciabatta roll. Extra crispy ff fries with ketchup. It didn’t scratch the itch, maybe because I forgot to add onion? lettuce? something?
I’m sorry that happened to you and your sister. Glad you’re okay.
Korean rice bowl with a Costco top sirloin, garden asparagus, and a fried egg. I use an epicurious recipe as a jumping off point. The smashed sesame seed and chili powder garnish is da’ bomb! Secret ingredients in the marinade include boiled cider for a fruity element (could use apple sauce or juice, or kiwi) and MSG.
