Our neighbor shared some ground turkey with green peppers and caramelized onions from TJ’s. She overbought. I threw together some meat balls with egg, panko, lots of nutmeg, and black pepper, finishing them by a quick toss in a little Wondra and a pan sauce of Marsala, cream, and more salt and pepper. Served it over pearled barley, but I made too much. So pudding it was! Egg, milk, turbinado sugar, vanilla, golden raisins, and cardamom.

Tonight’s dinner was Baby Lima Bean Soup with Ham and Peas. I had a small chunk of ham in the freezer and this was a perfect way to use it up.

Polenta with Lila and King City Beans in Tomato Sauce from “The Bean Book” by Steve Sando - tomato sauce is made by cooking onion, garlic, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, sage, red wine vinegar in chicken broth before adding the cooked lila and king city beans. The sauce is finished with crisped pancetta and parsley. Served over polenta and topped with parmesan

Dover sole meuniere that maybe spent a little too much time in the pan (still very good, with the crackly parts), leftover mashed potatoes and haricots avec champignons.

I cannot be trusted to grow peas in the garden. They never make it to the house, as I nibble on them while I putter with my plants. (Hmmm…living alone means I get all the peas and can snarf them whenever I feel like it…except it’s already too warm here! This winter…)

I love peas, too. Just steamed with a little butter an salt. I also (weirdly) absolutely love Le Soeur peas (just that brand) cold, right out of the tin.

Same. So metallic and starchy!

We had some mexican food leftover from the other night that I thought needed a bit of supplementing. Now, of course, I have that food plus what I pulled together leftover for another dinner.

Grilled nopales, slaw with red onion, cilantro, cumin, chipotle powder, oregano, lime juice and sour cream, and chopped lamb bits from the freezer with simmered jarred mole.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE peas, but I despise canned peas.

My sister DESPISES all peas…except Le Seuer baby peas from the can. But she doesn’t buy them regularly - only when her husband really wants peas. So if I have them over for dinner, I always make sure peas are included (as well as another veg that Sis will eat. )

Pan fried pork and chive dumplings with sauteed romaine, that needed to be used up, and carrot in a semi secret spicy sauce.
Ugly but tasty..

OI love the Le Sueur peas, too. Don’t have them often, but keep a can in the cabinet, just in case.

Our friend had us over for spaghetti and meatballs with green salad. A cake I baked for dessert. No pics, sorry.

The Never Ending Meal - a good thing!

I started out on an off note…opened a salad kit to find that much of the lettuce was rusted. Picked all that out and realized that I either grabbed the wrong bag or wasn’t paying attention as it included ranch dressing and a huge packet of cheddar cheese. Its normal nal for me to toss the cheese, but dumping the dressing too meant I just had a bowl of mixed greens.

So off to the fridge I went…ans found a cucumber, an avocado, some spring onions…so added those, along with a handful of cherry toms.

Added a hardcooked egg and an airfried breaded chicken breast…Big Arse Salad.

Pretty tasty for starting out as a misfire!
