A terrible pic of a very tasty beef and young romano bean stir-fry over jasmine rice.
I had intended on going for a gallery visit this afternoon but decided to go window shopping around my neighbourhood instead. I had a lovely afternoon visiting two kitchen stores (didn’t buy anything) and a bookstore. I walked out with two books - “Martyr” by Kaveh Akbar and “The Frozen River” by Ariel Lawhon. I started reading Martyr in the few minutes I had before dinner and it looks like an interesting read. Dinner was a basa fillet and a Greek salad. I was planning on making a panzanella but ran out of time to make croutons so I’ll have to try again next weekend. If anyone is looking for a non alcoholic beer I could recommend Athletic. I had the blonde tonight and it’s very nice.
My end-of-summer meal: lemon-honey-garlic chicken wings (they were fair); coleslaw; deviled eggs, the yolks mixed with mayo, s/p, and Wickles Pickle relish, with chives and Aleppo pepper on top; microwaved COTC with butter and s/p.
There was a large glass of wine.
And Benny the Bumble has been enjoying the Celosia I repotted a few days ago. Flitter the Hummingbird goes for the tips of the flowering basil, but I’ve yet to get a picture of her.
Repeat. Hot Italian sausage, provolone, a little chopped jalapeño quiche. A few crisped up onion rings leftover from lunch out today. With a cup of their special sauce.
But it ain’t over yet, It ain’t over 'til it’s over.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Mediterranean restaurant Mandaloun in West Caldwell, NJ. The food was excellent. The only negative point that turned us off was that they make you pack your own leftovers. I’m sorry, but we don’t go out to dinner to be put to work. We can do that at home. Especially when you are paying $160 for dinner. This isn’t McDonalds. Ok. Rant over We enjoyed an excellent Muhammara, filet mignon kebab, grilled lamb chops, lightly crispy borak, tender fried calamari and shrimp. It all went great with a couple of excellent red blends. Please excuse the pictures. There was horrible orange lighting. I would probably do takeout next time. It’s a shame, because it is a nice looking restaurant.
Thai beef salad (deconstructed) – a high-summer favorite when seasonal veggies are in abundance.
SRF boneless rib-eyes. Tomatoes, bell peppers, cukes, pepperoncini, red onions, and scallions from the garden.
This was in the WaPo last week but since I canceled my subscription I can’t get it although I still get the emails. I went with 3 T of gochujang , would go with 4 next time. Would definitely make again
It’s a salad night. Little gem, red cabbage, red onion, celery, Gold Nugget and grape tomatoes, avocado, sauteed chicken thigh and bacon, cambozola, ranch dressing.
There was a Bombay Gibson rocks, lawdy I love those Tipsy Onions.
I did add a little fish sauce and a squeeze of lime at service
Trader Joe’s fish nuggets, steamed potatoes, red onion, carrots, cauliflower, and a mustardy tartar sauce. I usually prefer veg to protein, but these fish nuggets were delicious. Damn you Trader Joe’s. Why can’t you open a store near me?
Vietnamese take-out from Thuan Kieu in London, Ontario. This hit the spot.
Veggie fresh rolls
Mango, cabbage and chicken salad
Lemongrass pork and grilled shrimp
Pasteis de Nata from Toronto for the DCs
Four-hour ribs, pork this time. The rack, from the oven:
And plated, with corn and Greek salad with avocado. Fall-apart tender!
Tonight after we returned home it was Goodles’ high protein mac and cheese over turkey and three bean chili from the freezer.
Last night, camping – crudites with pesto dip, grilled cheeseburgers, green salad with balsamic maple vinaigrette, store-bought potato salad, and s’mores on French butter cookies with Symphony milk chocolate.
The September thread has been started here:
Vegetarian Wellington Filet with Red Cabbage Salad - the puff pastry was filled with a duxelles/farce made from cremini mushrooms, onions, garlic, walnuts, hazelnuts, parmesan, mustard and thyme and topped with portobello mushroom caps. Served with a simple salad of red cabbage, parsley, olive oil and verjus
