My second take on extra-thin-crust ‘zaw, baked in a pan. So enjoyed the first that I needed to make sure I had nailed down the deets. Yes, indeedy. Here with garden cukes in vinaigrette and a charred scallion dressing as bonus.
Gnocchi with creamy mushroom sauce. Tomato, cucumber, red onion salad, oo & balsamic dressing, basil chiffonade. Toasted baguette with @mariacarmen’s delicious cambozola dip. There was wine.
We enjoyed another outstanding dinner at Bistro D’Azur in South Orange, NJ, including a fabulous whole grilled Branzino; Secreto Iberico with grilled peaches and potatoes; octopus with hummus; duck confit salad with Humboldt fog cheese, walnuts, and strawberries; orzo; fresh Spanish chips. It all went great with a couple of excellent cabernets.
Bits and bobs, shared with my friend tonight
A Croque Monsieur from a French café , a prosciutto and salami sandwich from an Italian bottle shop + gourmet shop , and homemade coleslaw.
Followed by a coffee éclair from the French café (the one in the middle)
Bacon cheeseburger and fries: medium rare lamburger (a little crumbled feta mixed in) with melted havarti, little gems lettuce, a slab of ripe tomato, on a whole wheat english muffin. The bacon, lettuce and tomato extended past the burger in places, so I had a few bites of a good old BLT.
Pizza Saturday. Pepperoni with chicken Boudin sausage. Added some basil and crushed tomatoes. Cheers.
That’s the use of additional corn stock, and the chopped jarred roasted red peppers gives it a “glow”.
The stock came out really well this time, a beautiful golden color. (And yes, I know what it looks like. )
I had to change from shorts and a tank into leggings, a LS shirt and light slippers yesterday evening, as it chilled down once the sun went down. Great sleeping weather!
Beaut. What is the orange stuff in the middle? Peppers?
I’m so used to wearing summer dresses I was standing in my closet yesterday, utterly confused as to what to put on for a short trip to the stupid market
It’s still warm during the day, but last night temps went down to 5˚C. That’s c-o-l-d.
We’re assuming our guests today will want to eat inside. Once the sun is gone there’s def a chill in the air.
Cant wait to make another pot roast! Although chuck roast prices (and beef prices in general) have increased a lot. So it’ll be an infrequent purchase this winter.
Ohhhh yeah. My 2nd BR windows would NOT have been open overnight with those temps! I think it got to about 55°F by me overnight, but your temps are often 5-10° cooler than the near-coast where I am.
I noticed the other day at the grocery store that pot roasts were averaging $35 each. Might feed a family of four (with no leftovers) after it shrinks. I just cannot bring myself to pay that price for something that only cost $3 forty years ago and was a cheap meal.
Zucchini blossom
Oooh! Love zucchini blossoms
Late lunch/early dinner at our favorite suburban Indian joint.
Veg pakoras(no photo, but they were delicious).
Veg biryani.
Aloo gobi masala.
Dal makhani.
Butter chicken and nan bread.
Everything was super delicious as usual. Afterwards we waddled over to the DQ in the same plaza for an end of summer Pecan/caramel sundae.
Secreto Iberico is fantastic.
