Get those vacations in now, families! Because when you’re back home after traveling, hiking, swimming, touristing, and then washing all of the dirty summer clothes, bathing suits, and beach towels, it’ll be time to drag the kids (kicking and screaming) to the stores to get new school clothes and supplies. Preparation for parents hitting that Easy Button and simulating the Staples commercial glide down the aisles on the shopping carts singing to “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!” song.
But before that? The kids can enjoy National Watermelon Day (August 3rd), or National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day (August 4th), and National S’Mores Day (August 10th).
Parents, on the other hand, will probably prefer National White Wine Day (August 4th) or National Rum Day (August 16th).
Either way - everyone can enjoy National Burger Day (August 22nd) during those last minute vacations and enjoy whatever the end of summer is providing you in your local farmers markets (like corn!) for those of us with brief FM seasons.
Get your grill on and let us know what you’re cooking up!
Microwave meal dins in the staff room. At least 5 nurses leaving the day shift told me they could smell this down the corridor and my apologies were met with “No, don’t worry, it smells great and now I’m hungry!”
Well, this exceeded my expectations. Not spicy at all but really good taste and texture of ingredients. I would eat this again.
I miss Marks and Spencer They used to have stores in Canada until the mid 90s and closed because they weren’t doing too well here. I bought more than my fare share of clothes and food from M&S…
A lazy day. Late run to BJs and Market Basket, the latter being the decision maker on dinner.
A BISO chicken breast, and baby potatoes I had in storage whose little eyes had begun to grow little spindly legs. Both were seasoned with a combo of olive oil, lemon juice, a LOT of dried oregano, minced garlic, s/p and granulated honey, and roasted in a 400° oven until done. Ultimately needed more lemon juice and oregano, and a long marination time, but still decent.
Veg was peas and last year’s corn from cobs. A lovely French chardonnay as the libation.
Mish mash dinner of leftovers from a family lunch the other day from our favourite Hakka restaurant in the burbs.
There was some noodles, chilli chicken, garlic green beans, spicy tofu, a pakora, a piece of shrimp on toast and I added some steamed pork dumplings .
Ugly, messy, spicy and delicious
I had to take my car to the dealership today because a light came on. I decided to just hang and wait. My car was ready, they couldn’t find the key . I had nothing going on so I went across the street for a glass of wine and a salad for lunch. The place I went to had a broccoli caesar flatbread as their lunch special. I didn’t have room for that but decided to make it for dinner…after I had to drive a loaner vehicle home for my spare. They let me take a new one but I think they were just trying to convince me to upgrade. Spoiler alert: not happening.
Made some dough when I got home. Broccoli ceasar pizza and a potato, salami and mushroom pizza. I also made some pizza buns for weekend snacks. Hoping my key shows up soon so I don’t have to go back and get a new one.
I asked, and if I was the one paying just under $1k. They would charge an hour of labour at $465 an hour plus cost of the key. Super annoying because my house and mail keys are on there but hoping that means it will make them more visible. It is what it is, and hopefully they find them tomorrow.
Happy August, everyone. I hope you enjoy the remainder of your summer and that you have tolerable weather.
Turkey and vegetable tacos made on the panini press for dinner. Very tasty.
I would insist that they pay for BOTH replacement key, as well as the cost of rekeying my house and my mailbox.
The thought of having a total stranger having access to literally everything in my life is chilling. They can walk into my house, take my car, and access all of the personally identifiable information that is dropped into my mailbox.
Prosecuting would be difficult because they have the keys (and therefore implied permission, as if you don’t rekey it all, you are effectively giving them the nod)
The liability that they are exposing themselves to is far more than the cost of a few keys.
