it appears @TheLibrarian28 uses Tony Chachere’s Creole seasoning, which is available in a salt-free version.
I use that for my mac salad. The spicy version is nice, too.
I had one lonely hot Italian sausage in the freezer, so roasted it in the oven, and threw it on top of my usual salad. Air quality was pretty bad today because of fires, so no grilling outside.
I made lightened-up chicken pot pie soup after hosting a playdate with old friends, cake, and coffee. Hit the spot on a rainy, chilly day.
BLTs with my first home-grown slicer of the season, a purple Cherokee with a superficial split. Delicious.
So local corn on the cob
Obligatory cucumber salad, this time with red sweet peppers
And
Homemade strawb ice cream.
Didn’t feel like cooking and wanted to go a bit lighter with my dinner tonight, so I made a Genova tuna, corn and tomato pasta salad with ditalini, slivered fresh basil and chopped mozzarella. Chives stood in for the usual green onions. The vinaigrette was olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, s/p, and dried oregano.
Munchie dinner with a few rounds of Connect 4. Crackers, brie, red pepper jelly, peas, carrots and hummus from the Greek restaurant down the road from my house. A bottle of 2022 Riesling from Ex-Nihilo, which is also down the road by my house. I found a rogue bag of pizza rolls in the freezer this morning that I’ll cook later if I’m hungry.
I left dinner up to him tonight and had my doubts. He put on a pot of pinto beans with chopped onion, jalapeño, bacon grease, s&p. Then threw in sautéed sliced smoked sausage along with more onion and jalapeños and I insisted on a dash or two of Worcestershire sauce for a little umami. A little cilantro. Turned out pretty good. Especially with a square of cornbread drenched with butter. Proud to call his WFD tonight.
A pleasantly warm, not crazy humid day allowed for another pickleball match (1:3 ) & a quick dive into my friends’ pool afterwards to cool off.
Met them and my recluse buddy after their Sunday book club meeting for sundowner beers at the brewery. Took the scooter again cuz we gotta get those miles on it!
Dinner was leftovers from last night: lamb chops & ribs, pilaf and tzatziki, pimped out with TJ’s gigantes and an easy green salad with avo & cukes in buttermilk ranch dressing.
Simple Sunday dinner.
Our first bite of summer corn, along with a rockfish taco redux. Chili ranch for the win.
Veggies all from the garden.
Greek- style stuffed tomatoes with beef, rice, raisins and pine nuts.
Oven-braised Hodge Podge
Maple ginger beans
A sour cherry custard galette from the farmers’ market for the dining companions.
Which Greek restaurant is it?
I used to live in Calgary. I would order Greek food when I was homesick.
Boursin, mushrooms, shallots , copious amounts of butter and garlic, sodium free chicken broth over fettuccine. I may have licked the bowl.
Salade niçoise. Genova albacore, haricots verts and Gold Nuggets from the garden, Flavor Bombs, red and gold potatoes, sbe on a bed of little gem and red cabbage. A scattering of red onion and oo&v dressing with kalamata olives, anchovies and a dab of mayo. Leftovers for lunch tomorrow. There was a Beefeater martini with lemon olives.
Oh my!
Lovely
Beautiful!
Yesssssss
This one is actually in Lake Country, BC. I have a townhome here that I bought when I was young. We go back and forth lots. It’s called Greek House. If you have any recommendations for Greek places in Calgary, I’ll gladly take them!
