Went easy today: Sketti and Sawce, and some garlic bread from a demi-baguette. I thought about making a side salad, but said fuhgeddaboudit, since I’ll be having 3 veg tomorrow. That’ll make up for the lack of veg tonight (except for the onions, red bell peppers, and mushrooms in the sawce).

There was wine: 1924 Buttery Chardonnay.

We picked up the desserts for tomorrow at the Italian bakery this afternoon, as well as more chicharoon/moo krob (to finish up the nam jim jaew stinking up I mean scenting the fridge ), and half a chicken from the same Mexican-owned bodega. They have some amazing offerings for lunch, and we haven’t even scratched the surface — like a beef and a chicken stew, rice & beans, yucca, etc.

My PIC made ‘his’ Shanghai bok choy with oyster sauce, heavy on garlic & fresh ginger that I chopped up. The chicken was really good — much more flavorful than the chicken from the Peruvian joint we’ve ordered from a couple of times, and it went really well with the Viet kumquat hot sauce :yum:

Glad we’re in no big rush to get out tomorrow, and traffic should be fine. Our hosts lost a few guests on short notice, so I sent a message to my widowed friend to see if she had any plans — not before checking with our hosts, of course. They actually introduced us when I was diagnosed last year, so it’s not like I was inviting a total stranger. I’m actually kind of surprised they didn’t include her in the first place.

Turns out she was going to spend Thanksgiving all by herself…. well, with the company of her 6 dogs, so she was incredibly grateful for the invitation & I’m so glad I asked

Wishing everyone a swell turkey day eve & may all your dishes turn out just the way you want tomorrow

Plop, plop, fizz fizz…or do you have a cast iron digestive tract?

Chorizo, cheese, and scallion quesadillas for spouse and son. Pineapple chunks to avoid feelings of inadequacy. I wasn’t hungry. Nursed my G&T.

The night before Thanksgiving. Homemade chili/cheddar/a dab of sour cream and few buttered saltines on the side. Turkey is all set in the fridge, and everything is all ready to go in the morning. My grandson just set up a card table with Monopoly. I told him maybe 10:00 a.m.? Life is good with grandkids here. Keeps you young?

I eat early, but I always have a tub of Tums at the ready just in case. Also, I didn’t eat that whole plate full of food, still have some left for tomorrow.

The night before Thanksgiving is usually Chinese takeout around here, but neither of us was super hungry tonight so we split a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese and called it good. Tomorrow we feast!

Later: Spag Bol (I couldn’t finish half, because I had been “tasting” bits and bobs as we prepped through the afternoon and evening.

ETA: Dessert while I bake crostini for tomorrow: Basque cheesecake and a hot toddy.

Splendid tasting!
What a delightful creamy sauce! Aromatic with a highly defined umami crab taste profile. Well balanced with a very slight hint of spiciness to augment the savory component. Noticeable small pieces of REAL crab meat and tamale present!
No complaints for $5.99, though I was told they can be bought in Lawson’s or 7-11 in Japan for around $3 only!
For sure, when in season, I will add some fresh shucked Dungeness or Blue crab meat to kick the dish up a few notch!

Glad you recaptured that taste memory!

The Tokyo version was more delicate yet complex. Tasted way better too!..and loaded with Snow crab leg meat!

This week I dropped the ball on the menu planning front. Ibhad intended on making chicken tikka so I took a chicken breast out of the freezer on Wednesday night to thaw in the fridge. When I got home from work yesterday the chicken was still on the froxen side so I had tonight’s pasta dish last night instead. I had cavatapi with Brussels sprouts, blue cheese and walnuts. I hadn’t made this dish in awhile so I couldn’t remember if I left the sprouts whole or cut up so I left them whole. Note to self: cut them in half next time:) Also make less noodles. So I planned on making chicken tikka for dinner but neglected to plan a veggie side so I made a chicken curry instead since I had all the ingredients. It generated a lot of sauce though so I will have to scale it down a bit.

Last night’s dinner started with chopped tomato and avocado then cavatapi with Brussels sprouts, walnuts and blue cheese:

Tonight’s dinner was a chicken curry with peas and red pepper:

A perfectly quiet day. I got to stay in my comfy clothes all day, didn’t have to drive in the dreary rain, and cooked what I wanted when I wanted it.

Decided on no Scooby Snacks. Dinner was roast chicken and homemade gravy ( I didn’t want turkey), mashed sour cream and chive potatoes, buttered green beans with fried shallots and toasted almonds, roasted Ras el Hanout carrots and radishes, and cranberry-orange relish.

There will be a slice of apple galette with Gifford’s Salted Vanilla Toffee ice cream for dessert.

And there was wine. AND I don’t have to work tomorrow. :+1:

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Hope your day was spent exactly as you wanted.
