Fish Sticks! Kind of. Something the fishmonger had as California sea bass, strips of fish, shallow fried in the usual flour-egg-panko* With a brown rice pilaf and lemon/garlic aioli. Crunchy outside, flaky and soft inside.

(* the flour stage is 1/4 rice flour, 3/4 potato starch. Trust me!)

I’m glad to see you were in good form with your broccolini as I was with my cucumbers. Classic.

Quick dinner for a cold, rainy Tuesday night: mafaldine with broccolini in a blue cheese pan sauce. Topped with chopped hazelnuts for crunch.

I made a tuna casserole with canned tuna from the new Portugese bakery in Little Italy (first time to cook with Portugese canned tuna, the fillets were a nicer texture than regular canned tuna) , German egg noodles , cheddar and Gruyère. I also made a quick cream of potato , leek and cabbage with nutmeg soup.

My PIC got back yesterday  :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:!! He’d left Mass really early, and the drive apparently wasn’t terrible until he hit CT, where traffic was worse than in NYC.

Our attempt to visit the Italian bakery, as we are all out of coffee treats :scream: :scream: :scream: was thwarted by the sight of the line snaking out the door — same scene at DiBruno’s, where we we’d hoped to score a honka cheese. Thankfully, pickup for Thxgiving online orders are at a separate entrance today at the bakery, as we are contributing a coconut custard pie, a key lime pie, and an assortment of Italian cookies to the big meal back home.

At least the smoked fish purveyor was empty, where we bought host gifts for our buddy and his boo, who were going to put us up for Turkey Day & Friday night: 3 different kinds of fish paté (mackerel, spicy mackerel, trout) & 3 fancy Milk Boy chocolate bars

…. only to find out today that boo has a sore throat  Booked a hotel for both nights just in case.

Dinner was at the Mediterranean neighborhood place with a friend from back home who happened to be in town for a couple nights, and who randomly got in touch Monday.

We had 2 orders of the octopus, which was fantastic as ever (even if the end of our tentacle was a little too charred)

& split the smelts with tzatziki

and the turmeric onion fritters for our apps.

The smelts were fab, the onion fritters as well, but it was a huge portion.

Our mains were luscious lamb manti with chili oil and labneh,

and the pide with mushrooms & Taleggio & extra long hots.

We also split a slice of that ridic cake with tahini buttercream filling and espresso chocolate ganache ‘frosting,’ for we are piggies.

Stuffed to the gills, we decided to postpone tonight’s rez at one of our favorite fancier places in town bc we need a break after yesterday’s lavish meal.

Good that your PIC avoided the worst of the great Thanksgiving traffic jam. Driving from Eastern MA down through CT has brought us many unwanted traffic surprises over the years.

I’m just glad he got home safe

It’s some of the best octopus we’ve had. Pat @Bigley9 had recommended it, and we’ve gone 3 times now.

Going back next week Sunday for a 6-course Spanish prix fixes w/wines

I missed getting into the Spanish dinner :disappointed: but I may head there one day this weekend since your pics have me drooling!

I swear that mushroom pide is incredible. Enough to last you a few meals, and they don’t skimp with the Taleggio, either: there’s cheese and shrooms and long hots (which we added) well into the folds of the pide :yum:

Sorry you couldn’t get into the Spanish dinner :slightly_frowning_face: We’ll have to find a date for Sophie’s Kitchen before we leave town in 2 weeks :sob:

An interesting Japanese/International collaboration product found in a Chinese Supermarket ( Asia Food Mart, Scarborough )

When I first set foot on Nippon-land over 3 decades ago. My best friend, who resides in Tokyo at that time, took me to an Italian restaurant to savour a pasta dish crafted with home-grown Cherry and Roma tomatoes paired with an abundance of Hokkaido Snow Crab meat.
It was one of the tastiest plates of pasta I have come across. So delectable, it easily rub shoulders with some of Italy’s ‘seafood’ best found locally in famed eateries along its long coastline.

The title and illustration of this packaged ‘Japanese Heinz’ pasta sauce - " Heinz Adult Pasta Red Snow Crab Tomato Cream Sauce " looked so attractive and exude with nostalgia, picking up a pack to give it a try at home was a foregone conclusion!

Well? How was it?

I just bought it this afternoon!!

Looking forward! Will you add extra snow crab?

Now that I know where to find it. I’ll give the ’ unadulterated ’ version a try first. If the flavour is good then for version 2.0, I’ll kick it up a notch with more crab meat as per your suggestion!
