Serious Eats Turchetta (I prefer Turketta). We skipped right to sandwiches with provolone, broccoli rabe, and hot cherry peppers. Pinot Noir for me and IPA for him. Happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating!
Dammmmn, that looks good!
Thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
I roasted a third of a turkey breast (1.4 lbs). Bread dressing, sweet potatoes, salad, beans, Brussels sprouts and purchased pie. Stuffed. (Christina, I had a very small slice of pie. How could I not? )
L VE that pie!!
That galette is .
Sunshine had a rough day today, as she was in (some) pain. I decided to re-schedule Thanksgiving dinner until she could enjoy the meal.
I defrosted two chicken drum sticks and made Paprika Chicken, a single sweet potato and some peas. She ate most of it, then laid back down. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day…
I hope Sunshine feels better soon.
Thank you.
Nibbled liverwurst mousse and onion jam on toasted baguette while sipping a Negroni Sbagliato. Smooth jazz on the stereo while prepping.
Finally at seven-ish dinner was served. French 75 with prosecco, ok I had one while cooking too.
Turkey tenderloin rolled in rosemary, thyme, garlic, s&p, smoked paprika, smokehouse maple seasoning, wrapped in bacon, seared in bacon grease and roasted. Pepperidge Farm dressing, onion, celery, parsley and chicken broth. Mashed potatoes, butter, sour cream, green onions. Gravy made from pan drippings, flour, packet of turkey gravy and chicken broth. Ocean Spray whole berry cranberry sauce. Salad was blood orange and fennel over sweet mixed greens with citrus dressing and toffee pecans. Everything was delicious except the dressing. Pepperidge Farms has always been my favorite dressing, but it had a strange musty taste. I think more herbs might have helped.
Dessert if I have room later. Pumpkin cheesecake and mini pecan pie. I had one of the mini pecan pies last night with French vanilla ice cream. It was superb, light flaky crust with a not too sweet filling.
Happy thanksgiving to all!
Turkey dinner at the weird Thanksgiving meal time - Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing balls, gravy, bread sauce, green beans, Brussels sprouts, roasted squash.
Before that, gravlax, baked Brie with spicy onion jam, and sausages wrapped in bacon.
Chinese inspired Thanksgiving dinner with “Taste of Sichuan” Beef Shanks from ATK’s “A Very Chinese Cookbook” - diced beef shank get first braised in water with plenty of ginger and star anise and then a second, shorter braise in a mixture of ginger, garlic, rock sugar, doubanjiang, shaoxing wine, chinese black vinegar and soy sauce. Finished with some toasted sesame oil. Served with some stir-fried choy sum and rice
Best wishes to Sunshine. I hope she feels better soon.
You’re taking good care of Sunshine! So glad you have each other
We got to our hosts around 6pm, where lots of dishes their Indian friend had prepared were already scenting the kitchen / open dining room. The meal was served buffet-style, and boy, were there many good things to eat. I’d hoped to get some “official” names for Sri’s dishes, but he said most of them are just stuff he wings, so… I’ll try to describe them from memory
First up, the turkey. Crispy skin, juicy meat, absolute hack job at carving, but I blame the Bloody’s that were flowing rather generously pre-dinner
Wonderful coconut rice with cilantro, that was meant to be eaten
with this ‘fruit stew.’ Yeah, you heard right. A fiery stew of pineapple and mango. Quite (and unexpectedly) delish.
Sri also made a fab beet dish,
a khichdi / kedgeree with lots of different green veg
meant to be had with his raita,
and finally another green veg & rice dish with lots of cilantro.
Everything was delish, but the beets and the random fruit stew were my favorite sides.
Our coconut custard pie
and key lime were a great success, too. Well-bought on our end
Still full from last night & it was so nice to hang with our friends
This sounds wonderful! Turkey tenderloins are a good way to enjoy a little turkey without being overwhelmed.
Yes, great for us solo diners. This one was part of a two pack so I have one in the freezer for Christmas dinner.
