Brunch, pt. II:

Sam’s Club smoked salmon on a toasted sesame bagel with a shmear of local cream cheese & a healthy squeeze of Inglehhoffer’s horseradish. Topped with thinly sliced, ancient leftover red onion bits (tried to do the same with a wrinkly old Persian cuke, but it was tasteless so it got tossed) and a smattering of dill sprigs.

No capers. Boo hiss.

Choked it down anyway

Sunday breakfast/brunch of champions: bacon, dippy* eggs, toasted seeded bread with a shmear of local garlic & herb cream cheese.

*“Dippy eggs” usually refers to SBEs here in Pennsyltucky. I dippy-ed my bacon into them anyway.

Cabbage and potato gratin leftovers, plus fried egg and beetroot compote.

The gratin is good for any time of day, really satisfying. There are a lot of recipes around, but I recommend thinly slicing the potato and coarsely grating the cabbage, then layer with a sauce made of butter and cream, and top with grated cheese and breadcrumbs.

A proper breakfast after practically no real dinner last night: “farm-fresh”   eggs from my buddy’s hens, bacon from Aldi.

And the rare glass of whole milk, leftover from my boo’s recent ice cream makings.

Just when I thought I was the only milk drinker here  If it was whole milk I’ll bet it was good.

I occasionally drink milk, but only 1% now. Had some on my TJs Vanilla Almond Clusters cereal this morning. :glass_of_milk:

From our local dairy, at that! Even their skim milk is deliciously creamy — no idea how they pull that off. I usually find whole milk a bit too rich vs. the 2%, which is my preference.

Milk was always my favorite breakfast drink. I drank a shit ton of it as a kid, prompting the owner of the barn where I spent half of my childhood to remark that “calves triple in size from drinking cow’s milk within just a couple of months” — uh, thanks?

We rarely have proper breakfasts here (especially compared to our lavish breakfasts in Berlin), so we don’t tend to have milk in the house… unless someone has recently made ice cream.

growing up, we rarely, if ever, had soda in the house so i never acquired a taste for the stuff. even now, i’ve never had a coke or pepsi. as a kid, at birthday parties, i would ask for a glass of milk.

I’m also a milk drinker, and it’s always whole milk.

I even drank it as a teen/twen coming home late from the bar to quench my thirst.

I def prefer water these days for that.

always water to quench thirst. but a beer, when it’s really, really hot is great!

Why not both? Beer for the buzz, water for hydration. And double the pee :face_with_peeking_eye:
