What made it Illinois?
Illinois crookneck squash. From the Land of Lincoln. You can read about it’s pedigree at Baker Creek Seeds here.
ETA: It’s my favorite squash to grow. It’s sweet, a great pie squash, and you get a lot of bang for your buck.
That’s a big one!!! I had crap garden luck this year. Hoping to have a better one next year by substantially amending the soil and getting seeds going a bit earlier. Squash is one where I haven’t had much luck. The vines set some fruit but then always die before the squash is bigger than about a golf ball.
“Eng” means tight in German, so thanks for the laugh today ![]()

*as in: I saw a small red circle beneath the HO logo and thought “oh, must be a seasonal addition… maybe a xmas ornament? A very dark pumpkin?”
Nope. Just pom juice ![]()
I was going to make one of my favorites after arm day, Eibrot (open-faced egg sammich) to get that protein in, with some of the fancy trout roe I brought back from Philly, but then I made kinda-devilled eggs instead.
Twerked.

Delicious pecan waffle with a side of link sausage at Blueberry’s in Naples FL. Highly recommend for cheap and cheerful breakfast grub
This meme made me think of you and @Sasha
This is hilarious! I am a Pisces and I just happen to like bananas as an oatmeal topping the most
Thanks for sharing.
I am going to Costco next Tuesday and I hope they have ginormous bags of oatmeal since they didn’t have any the last couple of times I went. The grocery stores only carry the teensy 800g bags and that’s not much good for oatmeal lovers like myself ![]()
Post-leg day breakfast was a Strammer Max on a slice of toasted Aldi’s bistro bread, Wegner’s cream cheese, ham off-the-bone & Havarti, plus two local eggs — one of which unfortunately broke in the pan.
I ate it anyway ![]()
I also destroyed the smacked cuke salad I forgot in the fridge last night, rendering me with serious dragon breath for the rest of the day.
Apple Dutch Baby. I used Honeycrisp. Served with Canadian maple syrup.
One of those marvelous dishes which is so much greater than the sum of it’s parts.
Do you have a recipe you could link, please. I have never made a Dutch Baby and an apple one appeals to me.
Here’s one, for starters:
Thank you so very much.
