I had never heard of them either until I started getting them in my CSA share last year. As you can tell, they look like oblong blueberries but they have a tart taste. I usually sprinkle a few on my oatmeal or yogurt for breakfast however they are also used in baking. I would love to try them in muffins but with this heatwave we’re in, it’s not gonna happen any time soon.
Looks like they’re mostly available in Japan, Canada or Russia as a fruit. I can get Haskapa powder or juice on Amazon here in the U.S.
This morning’s breakfast was a red bean bun and oolong tea. More treats from yesterday’s trip to Chinatown.
for breakfast?!?!!!
Why not?
People eat sandwiches for breakfast all the time.
I think the comment was more for a dessert sandwich for breakfast
People eat sweet things for breakfast.
sure, absolutely why not, but what are you gonna have for afternoon tea, then? porridge? scrambled eggs and bacon?!
Who are you guys, the mealtime police!??
Yep - no sweets for breakfast in the future, please. Otherwise, move on
Yowzah!!! I’ll take an order of that plz.
There would be extreme consequences if I told Sunshine she couldn’t have a piece of cake with her morning coffee. She doesn’t do that everyday, but I’m not man enough to stop her when she wants something with sugar in it.
I just shut up and bake more - this house will never be without some type of dessert, otherwise I’d have to sleep with one eye open.
My DH used to be like that. As much as I could bake (sweets), he would eat. Then, in his mid-sixties, he got religion and started cutting back. He still enjoys it, but I don’t get to bake anywhere near as often as I used to.
All kidding aside, she does eat her sweets in (somewhat) moderation.
Sunshine did lose a lot of weight when she got sick last year, but has since gained it all back – plus a little bit more. Her PCP did tell her to lose a few pounds and she has been doing a pretty good job at portion control on the sweets I do bake.
All in all, I’m just really thankful to have her healthy and happy!
How was it?
