Trader Joe's 2024: YEA/NAY/MEH

I never knew they even had the Honey Mustard Onion nibblers! In Japan I used to occasionally buy the bits but they were expensive and rather addictive so I made sure not to buy them too often. Pretzels of any kind are not too popular in Japan because snacks which are only salt “flavored” are not favored. Potato chips are HUGELY popular there but just plain salted ones aren’t.

A friend who eschews beef and pork mentioned that TJ’s Organic Vegetarian Chili (14 oz can with green label) is a favorite, with pea protein crumbles providing meaty mouthfeel. New to me, and YEA! I wanted more umami so added a bit of Lao Gan Ma, and parmesan shavings. It’s going on my repeat buy list.

YEA for the seasonal return of the Maple Walnut Mini-Biscotti. Last year they sold out fast so yesterday I bought six canisters.

Maybe I missed it, but I don’t see a post about this sauce, which we found to be a YUGE HELLZ TO THE YEA. I can’t wait to get my hands on it again.

YEA for the black truffle Monterey Jack — I’m usually wary of their truffle-y stuff but I liked this.

YEA - medjool dates and deglet dates — I wanted the former but they were out for a while so I finally tried the latter.

I got some and like them fairly well, too.

I bought the pumpkin mini biscotti last year after the maple walnut ones sold out. I much preferred the latter, and bought 6 containers earlier this month.

YEA to the maple walnut, MEH+ to the pumpkin.

Nay/Meh to the pumpkin ice cream. With its heavy spicing and (to me) rum flavor, it tastes like eggnog ice cream.

I thought the pumpkin flavor was good, except the cinnamon totally ovverwhelmed it. I refused a second offer from someone who loves it.

I get more rum and nutmeg than cinnamon – but whatever it is, it isn’t good. Not much pumpkin flavor.

Rum would be a plus for me but just NO on all the cinnamon overload.

(Even their chai is a cinnamon bomb, and in my whole life I have never put cinnamon in chai, though theres sometimes a tiny pinch of it in chai masala.)

NAY to the frozen gluten-free macaroni and cheese. It was so tasty but did not sit well with me. Hours later and I’m still feeling it. :frowning:

Yea to the spray leave in conditioner. Helped de tangle beach hair after a days of fun in the Jamaica sun without the usual complaining. And the scent is vice and light

A YUUUUUUGE NAY for TJ’s discontinuing this product. Apparently, it wasn’t ‘popular’ enough.

Typical. I’m sure the discontinued refrigerated hollandaise wasn’t popular at all, either. /s

YEA for the Ciabatta rolls.

Made a great chicken salad sandwich one day, and toast the next.

I noticed they’ve expanded the Ciabatta selection, there’s a 4-pack of plain and with everything bagel seasoning, a 6-pack, a large loaf, and a half loaf.

BOO to Lemon pesto being seasonally phased out, I’m assuming — I forgot to stock up!

YEA that the tomato paste in a tube is back!

I like the ciabatta rolls, and the French rolls, a lot. Easy carb with dinner.

I don’t know about this specific case, but there have been times when items have been discontinued despite their popularity. For example, the refrigerated chocolate pudding was discontinued by the vendor due to some COVID issue (according to the TJ manager I spoke to). Unfortunate, because nothing available on the market comes close.

Oh, I know. Thus the little /s following that sentence, which is internet shorthand for sarcasm.

That said, I’d love to see the outrage if that frozen orange chicken (which I have absolutely ZERO interest in trying) ever were to be discontinued

Have you tried their herbed focaccia?

No. Is it good?

Finally got around to trying the Crunchy Curls, and they a big YEA from me, too.
