Trader Joe's 2024: YEA/NAY/MEH

I’d never noticed this and checked my local TJ yesterday. No maple/sweet and savory chicken, but they had lemon rosemary spatchcocked chicken.

I also spotted a new fall Pumpkin Biscotti. Big YAY for me. Not overwhelmingly spiced, but enough of a good pumpkin flavor. Was really good with coffee.

There’s a bunch of seasonal maple stuff right now – popcorn, ice cream, I forget what else but a lot.

I adore maple-flavored things and therefore do not buy them. Our Sprouts has a nut bar (roasted, yogurt-covered, chocolate-covered, etc.) that includes cinnamon pecans, and maple pecans. They shall never make it across my doorstep .

OK, maybe a tiny sample next time we go :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Go on now, life’s too short is what you’d be telling me!

Point taken.

Carpe diem et nucem, statim!!!

Here you go @LulusMom1this one for pignoli cookies. She said you can omit the flour to make it chewier or GF.

But also good for almond cake (eg this or this or this) or kringle.

Thanks for the pignoli link. I really want to try these.

@LulusMom1 Pull put Classic German Baking, there are lots of recipes that call for this amount of almond paste.

I have a family recipe for a shortbread-style almond paste cookie that’s a holiday staple that I can share if desired. (I shared it many times over the years on Chowhound, but I don’t know whether I’ve shared it previously on HO.)

Given the weight, packaging, and that it’s a product of Denmark, I’m pretty sure the almond paste is actually Odense. At $3.99, a good deal.

The sweet and savory spatchcocked chicken was, unforgivably, discontinued. I wailed.

I hope last Autumn’s mini maple walnut biscotti return.

BTW, Lindt has a new limited edition maple milk chocolate truffle. Very good, though I wish it were dark chocolate. I got them online from Lindt but apparently at least SOME supermarkets have them.

Yea: Add me to the fans of the pappadums.

Yea: A NAF shoutout for the set of three (in various sizes) silicone ziplock bags. At $10 for the set, they’re way more affordable than most brands.

I don’t know if this is new, but it’s new to me: Freeze-dried tart cherries. I’m thinking of using them in Stella Parks’s super thick and fruity whipped cream or maybe her fruity no-churn ice cream.

I see pumpkin-palooza has extended to the toiletries section. I saw pumpkin versions of the ultra-moisturizing hand cream, body butter, and body scrub, as well as a pumpkin-vanilla candle. (I’m assuming these are more pumpkin spice, given that pumpkin itself doesn’t smell very good.)

Picked up the 4-pack of mini apple pies today. Huge YAY!!! Just the right size to meet the craving. Hope I can make the other 3 last a bit.

I saw them in my TJs two days ago!

I bought a bag❣️They’re deadly delicious…even my (as I’ve stated before) picky sister loves them and we both said that they’ll be a regular purchase❣️ Thank you for the recommendation❣️

So glad!

They’re also good as a crunchy topping / side for meals like rice, soup, etc

I’ll have to try that!

I’ve been using oyster crackers in place of croutons in salad because they stay fairly crispy and I often find them on sale…a few weeks ago Grocery Outlet had Nabisco Premium Brand 9 oz bags on sale for 2 bags for $1.00 ! But I’ll try the Crunchy Curls, too!

My favorite croutons are Utz Honey Wheat pretzel twist sticks. They are not as salty as other pretzels and at barely 3" long, easily broken into thirds.

Although I know of Utz’s products, we don’t see too many of them out here in Las Vegas. But I have also used pretzels as croutons! My favorite pretzels (whether to be eaten as pretzels or as croutons) are Snyder’s of Hannover Sourdough Nibblers. They are perfectly bite-sized and also keep their crunch.

I loved the Snyder Honey Mustard Onion nibblers, which were discontinued. They still have the pretzel bits but for me, that’s too much coating, with not enough pretzel flavor. I get the Utz online from Walmart. The most economical is a pair of huge spherical tubs, which last me many months.
