Tracking household grocery expenses - what do you spend?

Grilled Swiss and ham and cheese on Swiss - I’d make one right now, except I’d have to summon instacart :joy:

What about ham & cheese pockets (for eg in bread or pizza dough)?
You could add some diced potatoes and onion to bulk it up and for flavor, and bind it all with a bit of thick bechamel plus a bit of cheese.
Can make up & freeze for another day too.

I’m a big fan of Croque Monsieur, Croque Madame, and variations.

This Croque Toast was awesome.

……

I have been trying to do all my fresh veg and produce shopping once a week. This is for 3 adults, with some special diets.

$268 CAD last Saturday for Easter and this week at Briwood Market and $205 CAD today (Friday) at indie Remark Market ($170 CAD) and chain Farm Boy ($35 CAD)

….

I have started buying lamb and fish online from 2 suppliers, so that has changed how much I’m spending on meat and fish each month. I buy $150 (specific fish and shellfish, free shipping after $150 iirc) or $450 (half a lamb) at a time from these suppliers. It is a bit cheaper in the long run.

My early morning bicycle ride yielded these mushrooms. I didn’t have a plan initally, but when Sunshine saw them – A mushroom and onion pizza was demanded.

Yes – you and Sunshine think alike!! PIZZA!!

I’ll have to do some research – I’ve never made Croque anything.

That looks both tasty and beautiful!!

Simply a stuffed French Toast - filling between 2 slices of bread then the entire sandwich dipped in egg/milk mixture and cooked in skillet similar to French toast - flip at 4 minutes to cook the other side. Most often sprinkled with powder sugar to finish.

Croque Monsieur or Madame tend to be savory (ham and gruyere) and aren’t finished with sugar

That sounds like Monte Cristo.

I’m relieved to have purchased my veg/fruit CSA last year (as I have for several summers now) before prices got out of hand. We don’t subsist on only CSA produce by any means, but having some of our groceries be insulated from price fluctations will be a relief.

This gets updated 2x/mo.

One of my local grocery stores had Corn on the Cob (digital coupon) for 17 cents/ear - limit 8 (starting today)

I got there a few minutes after they opened, they didn’t have much to begin with – but I got my 8 ears. Sunshine enjoys corn on the cob for lunches and these are quite pretty.

Side note – As I rode past the gas station, I did notice that regular unleaded had gone down a dime. (From $5.09/gallon down to $4.99/gallon). I don’t know if this is the beginning of a trend or not.

what a good deal!

It’s been a LONG time since I ate a cube steak but they were a staple in my working-class childhood.

I haven’t tried cube steak yet. Not common up here as far as I know.

I have been having good luck with frozen meat and fish from 3 sources (all in Canada).

Larry’s Catch

McIntosh Farms (my country butcher in Listowel. 60 miles away so I bring ice packs and buy a lot when I visit)

Ewing Family Farm for lamb

I didn’t think to take a picture, but I just got back from a local (Baltimore) family owned grocery store - known to be high end - …fresh Maryland jumbo lump crabmeat - $79.99 a pound!

The answer is no, I didn’t buy any.
