Interesting, but how much heat do you use?
"In a dry skillet heated over medium, break up the tuna with a spatula, into tiny, bite-size flakes. " as in the recipe
or
“when I see canned tuna, my brain goes someplace completely different. I think about dumping it into a screaming hot pan” as in the article?
I don’t recall actually clicking through to the recipe. I thought the whole point was caramelization? So pretty hot. Maybe not quite “screaming.” The sugar is going to scorch if you’re not somewhat careful with it.
Nice! That store is about an hour from where I live. I’ve been meaning to drive over and check it out. Maybe I’ll finally make it happen in the interest of tinned fish.
Can you pick me up some of their Pastéis de Nata, and a box or two of the Queijadas da Vila? ![]()
That’s a good idea. If my DH weren’t so turned off by canned fish I’d do the same! The kiddo and I like it. Maybe I’ll grab a can of Trader Joe’s lightly smoked canned salmon to put in there.
ETA: My power-outage stash currently has shelf-stable Indian lentil dishes in pouches from Trader Joe’s, TJ’s bagged papadums, a box of instant couscous, Amy’s canned soups, and creamy mac and cheese with the squeeze cheese. And MREs the National Guard and Red Cross distributed after Hurricane Helene.
We also usually have canned chicken on hand. One of the first meals I made after Helene was pasta e fagioli using canned beans. I almost always have that kind of stuff around in my very, very full pantry.
We are hoping to avoid a power outage next time, if possible, thanks to our solar panels and battery. At the very least, we can use our car as a generator for the freezer end fridge again.
I hope @romansperson sees this. thread.
During a power outage, I try to keep things as normal as possible and a hot meal goes a long way.
The weather people are predicting a very hot summer here, which means an uptick in demand for electricity. In turn means – get ready for a power outage.
ETA – And good job prepping for your power outage. I have a battery bank for Sunshine’s phone and AA batteries for an old radio, but no backup for the fridge or freezer. It seems like our power outages only last about 4 hours, so I’m hoping everything stays frozen or cold. I don’t dare open the fridge or freezer during that time.
That’s the key. Maybe we should start/find a separate thread about emergency preparations? There’s more to say! Would you create one?
What a great idea!! Here your go.
