Yes the disasters or near misses is what memories are made of lol. Also the colorful language we both engaged in!

It’s all about the company

Humans make mistakes sometimes, inevitable.

I usually make mistakes if I’m in a hurry/dead tired.

My brother always roasts our turkey in a vintage tabletop electric roaster. If he’s not on call, he sometimes also smokes some turkey, and the breast he roasted this year was truly scrumptuous.

I felt bad that Neighbor #2 wasn’t going to have a Thanksgiving Dinner, so I made up a mini-Thanksgiving dinner for her. (I’ll prepare a BIG Thanksgiving dinner once Sunshine is all healed up and can enjoy it.) I gave Neighbor #2 some choices and she picked the following:
(1) Turkey - I had one pack of cooked turkey in the freezer, which was more than enough for one serving.
(2) Mashed Potatoes
(3) Corn
(4) Cranberry Sauce
(5) Gravy
She was overjoyed when I delivered her meal.

I had found this Blueberry Pie on clearance for $1.33 and froze it for a later meal. When I mentioned Blueberry Pie as a possible dessert, Neighbor #2 told me Blueberry was her all time favorite pie. I kept one piece for Sunshine (to enjoy at a later date) and delivered the rest.

Our restaurant’s Thanksgiving meals kits are finally done and ready to be handed out.

Mission (finally) accomplished.

Impressive! Is that in So Cal?

Yes.
We try to give these out every year. Started during Covid.

Nice! Do you mind saying what is in the kit?

Our table is set and ready for our guests

We’re pretty informal here at casa lingua, which by now no doubt you’ve gathered.

And so I’d love to see some pics of your table settings / center pieces / flowers, etc. if you have any, so I can live vicariously through y’all :folded_hands:

Sounds good!

The irony is I have never tasted any of it.

Well the turkey browned up real well, but it has yet to be tasted. We’ll see. Everything is smelling amazing now, not least the AR green beans with shallots and anchovies.

Here is my farro salad with apples, pistachios, pomegranate and soft green herbs, ready to go to my neighbors’ for dinner, along with sparkling perry (pear cider) and two pies (triple berry and cherry crumb) from the village bakery. Thanks to @truman for first posting about the salad on the Favorite New Recipes for 2025 thread and to @Autumm2 for suggesting that Cosmic Crisp apples would not brown in the salad, as they did not. Fabulous salad, huge hit at dinner! We also had turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, roasted butternut squash, green beans with mushrooms, creamed spinach and cranberry sauce. All delicious and the plates of food were beautiful and colorful. My two pies were also popular. And the sparkling perry was perfect! As always, the company was the best part.

ETA: the rest of the spread (gravy, cranberry and my salad were on the table).

We like to eat around 11:45 and I’m happy to report everything came together well-cooked and mostly on time. The 5-6 pound chicken needed a final 15 minutes to fully reach safe temperature, and brown a bit more, which was just enough time for us to each have a devilled egg and spanakopita as appetizer. Menu: Chicken, buttery almond stuffing, roasted cubed sweet potatoes, asparagus, cooked fresh cranberry orange sauce, salad (spinach, apple, mandarins, pecans, craisins, apple cider vinaigrette w sesame seeds), purchased spanakopita and homemade tzatziki, relish tray (devilled eggs, pickles, carrots, ripe olives, tomatoes). Desserts - pumpkin pie bars and pecan tassies. Wine.
Photo of the table and my filled dinner & salad plate, plus desserts. Bonus photo of the large relish server. The china was inherited from my maternal grandmother. I have many happy memories of family Sunday dinners and holiday meals with Grandma & Grandpa. The large relish server was my Mom’s and I love the separate faceted glass dishes that top the shiny tray.
