I didn’t particularly care for my meal at Arusuvai, but I ate only two dishes there and didn’t try the dosas or the uttapams. With that said, I thought the spicing was relatively pronounced in my dishes.
Arusuvai is a restaurant serving food from the state of Tamil Nadu. I have them bookmarked for their biryani, which is made using seeraga samba rice. I came here one day when my first choice lunch place nearby was full.
Chicken biryani:

The seeraga samba rice was quite wet, the wettest I have had in a biryani. Hidden from view were pieces of seasoned chicken. I’d say the biryani was average, compared to a similar one from Bawarchi that’s made with seeraga samba rice a while ago.

@bbulkow also frequent Aachi and the likes, so perhaps he may have some thoughts on this topic.
I’d avoid Abhiruchi.
NAfter the pleasant thali last month at Annachikadai, I had the opposite and unfortunate experience of eating thali a couple of miles down ECR at Abhiruchi.
A few of the components of the thali tasted of a common flavor- the nauseating taste of rancid oil. That taste was in the paratha, daal, eggplant, and I think one or two other items. I tried to think whether its my unfamiliarity with Andhra spicing that caused my reaction. But I can’t recall any other thali/ Andhra meal I’ve had with tha…
Some other data points for you:
Bharat Bazar Food Court is not really a food court. Its an eating area inside Bharat Bazar, an Indian grocery store in Sunnyvale, and they are the only eating establishment inside the store.
The highlights here are the specials menu with dishes from the Indian state of Kerala, a Southern state with a long coastline facing the Arabian Sea. Keralan dishes are generally harder to find in the Bay Area so I was eager to try Bharat’s offering.
I had the Meen Pollichathu, which was a white pomfret …
Went to Bezawada a while ago. The restaurant is one of the better reviewed ones with fresher decor. Went for lunch. Everything in the thali was ok to adequate but nothing wow’ed. Pricier than average, because of the nicer decor.
Has anyone been? I’d like to go back to try some of the coastal Andhra dishes, which I am not familiar with. What are the coastal Andhra specialties that people like (here, or in general)? How are the biryanis?
Checked in at Yelp to get a free mango lassi, which…
Biryani fans rejoice! Thursday is biryani-dosa buffet at Sankranti. Sankranti was started by the same owner who started Athidhi and Ulavacharu. FYI he’s from Hyderabad.
Non-veg biryanis: from left, chicken biryani, mutton biryani, konaseema chicken biryani, shrimp biryani, egg biryani. I thought the biryani was nice, though eating 6 of them on one plate they tended to blend together. The chicken from either the chicken biryani or the konaseema was delicious (I think its the konaseema). Th…
