We’re headed to the Mediterranean this quarter - SICILIAN was our big winner for the Spring 2025 COTQ. As much as I love Italian food, I am not well-versed in the specifics of this regional sub-cuisine, so it will be a treat for me to learn along with all of you. Bon appititu!
I’m excited about this one!
I just bought this Katie Parla cookbook , which I will use as my first resource.
I also own these cookbooks
…
A link to some Sicilian recipes
Che meraviglia! When we post whatever we end up cooking, do we need to share a specific recipe?
I ask bc I make a mean caponata, the recipe for which I lost a long time ago, but I’m motivated to make it from memory.
Pistachio gelato is also dolphinately on the agenda , and since it’s my dude making it, there will also be a recipe
Absolutely not - feel free to share your own recipe/method, a recap of what you did “this time,” your inspo recipe and changes, or no recipe at all - totally up to you.
OK, thx. I’m terrible at writing stuff down & usually just riff on recipes or do my own thing
I can groove to that

I visited a Sicilian pastry shop in a residential neighborhood in Rome in 2017. Their pastries are so beautiful.
I made a vegetarian adaptation of this recipe recently, omitting the sardines and anchovies. It was a hit at our house.
If anyone wants to make cannoli, I’m here for it.
This beauty is from one of the most famous cannolerias in Palermo, the name of which escapes me RN.
I am so excited for this COTQ! I am Sicilian and Calabrese on my father’s side and have been diving into the regional food and culture of Sicily for the last couple of years.
So much of what we consider Italian American hails from Sicily and the rest of Southern Italy so it will be interesting to see what the originals are like and how they morphed once coming over here.
I would love to know if you have any recommendations for websites that offer good Sicilian recipes.
I am looking forward to seeing specifically Sicilian recipes and dishes that are shared here, as opposed to broadly italian.
The Sicilian Gentleman’s Cookbook sounds interesting. Will probably have a copy winging its’ way to me soon. I am way too susceptible to Italian cookbooks.
I have the Sicilian Gentleman’s Cookbook and …it’s just “okay”.
Here are some that I have and the recipes are far more authentic and might prove more useful.
I’m making this cabbage dish tonight.

We liked the Sicilian sweet and sour cabbage…
I like this one a lot!
Oh yay, an excuse to finally buy an exclusively Sicilian cookbook!
I lost my sign in credentials to eGullet and can’t sign in anymore . The password reset hasn’t worked. I was active 2005-2010ish.
I didn’t know they still existed. Where fun goes to die.
