I just came up to the office from eating lunch - sort of a meatless taco salad. Fresh red leaf lettuce from the farmers market, tomato, little sweet pepper, queso fresco, scallion, black beans, last of a container of salsa, 1/2 an avocado. Lime juice squeezed over and sprinkled with salted Hunan chiles and a few broken up tortilla chips. Better than the sum of its parts.
This is a picture of “all the things” my pre-diabetes app asks about.
I do love a chopped salad. I think I went to Portillo’s about a year ago, but I think for hot dogs and a beef sandwich.
Good for you, tracking with an app. I’ve started logging everything into MyFitnessPal once again.
I eat there every time I visit my fam in Chicago but have never tried the chopped salad. The Italian beef, wet with hot giardiniera, is where it’s at.
Noted!
I’ve never seen a hot dog “through the garden”…
The best way to treat a hot dog IMHO
I happen to have raspberry vinegar and garden spinach…gotta try this!
I hope you like it!!
Our local market is posting a.favorite salad of mine,
Watermelon chunks with feta and arugula or green of your choice drizzled with olive oil. Looking forward to summer.
Sounds good! My arugula is usually done by the time watermelons are local, but I love it with just the feta too!
Thank goodness for salads, to help with the regularity
I’m a convert to dates in salad. That looks amazing.
I saw it on a Guy Fieri show. Who knew?
oof now it’s ruined for me
I had an incredible salad with thinly sliced celery, finely chopped dates, and ricotta salata at a restaurant in Philly. I’m not too fond of sweet things in my savories, but this worked fantastically well. It’s all about proportions, I guess.
If you haven’t tried Ottolenghi’s baby spinach salad with dates and almonds, I recommend it highly. As I noted upthread, I always skip the pita and butter and just fry the almonds and sumac in olive oil, and Cho the dates smaller.
