Salads

It’s about 65 ⁰F outside where I am in Ontario. The soil inside my veg growing containers is still frozen. There’s a little snow left but it will probably be gone by tomorrow.

The crocuses are up, so it’s first spring. We will have snow again before April.

Hopefully the snow won’t stay for long. It’s 15 degrees Celsius where I live (60 Fahrenheit) so the snow is starting to melt. Apparently we are expecting lots of rain tomorrow so it will melt even more of the snow - yay! We always seem to get one last snow storm at the end of March but the it never stays for long.

I made this lentil salad from Bon Appetit mag yesterday and had it over some salad greens lightly dressed in EVOO and lemon juice for lunch today. I really enjoy the flavors and textures of this salad. Definitely will make again!

First time enough peas made it inside for a salad. A buttermilk -yogurt dressing and “Israeli feta”.

I like “Israeli feta” (Pastures of Eden). It’s very mild. And I recognize your bowl. I have 2. From many years ago. Can only find them now on eBay.

I used to get a lot of use out of a little gratin shaped one, but can’t seem to find it!

I have that one, too. I think I know where it is …

Zucchini summer salad with zucchinis, celery, green pepper, and tomato. Evoo and balsamic vinegar dressing.

I made this recipe for Cauliflower Shawarma, but dressed the cauliflower with all of the tahini sauce and added cukes and olives so I could use it as a lunch salad during the week. Ugly but good at room temp over fresh spinach and some yellow grape tomatoes.

Snap Pea Salad with Feta, Lemon and Mint from a Milk Street recipe . I used preserved lemon puree instead of lemon zest.

My sugar snap vines have powdery mildew. :pensive:

Thank you! It was very filling, which did not stop me from having 2.5 helpings. And now I am very, very full :grimacing:

Sounds fantastic.

The base salad sounds like one that a cafe near me used to serve – but with parmesan not feta, and the addition of fresh peas. Will have to make it again soon!

There was a vendor in Union Station in DC 20 years ago that sold a baguette filled with Cobb Salad. I sometimes picked one up before my commute home (did not eat it on the train!) because I love Cobb Salad.

Funny how Americans love to eat on the go, in their cars etc.

Before I visited Japan just before Covid, December 2019, I read up on customs and was surprised to learn that they consider it very rude to eat in public, walking around and all.

When I was a little kid, my mom told me it was rude for a woman to walk down the street chewing gum. Also for a woman to walk down the street smoking.

It was probably just being a woman doing anything
