We used to do regular takeout from here but something has changed in the past few months. The biryanis are weak now and do not have the spice complexity as before. It was probably the only place in that neighbourhood we would spend $20+ for a biryani but not anymore.
Reporting back to biryani from bindia hmmm very bland and just run of the mill stuff. Not much chicken as well at this price point I would say pass.
I understand Mumbaikar has good vada pav.
I stopped by Mayil Coffee on College near Ossington on the weekend. Their dirty chai was really nice.
The masala chai has a lot more kick then most.
They have South Asian- inspired macarons in 3 flavours.
The food offerings are mostly things like idli and egg puffs, as well as some coffee shop staples like banana bread.
Samrat on College has sandwiches now, as well as Pan Indian standard dishes. It’s mostly a take-out spot. I rarely seen anyone dining inside. They have really cheap beer , to try to attract more dining in traffic.
This has been around for awhile in the UK - I spotted it on a menu in Wembley, London in September 2023:
Indian equivalent of a KFC bucket?!?
I think so! I have not tried it yet!
Sort of focusing on less carbs lately, but maybe I will try a bucket eventually.
I wonder if it would freeze well? Might be a real bargain if it’s good then! Biryani can be so rich a little goes a long way and a raita/salad cuts through the richness nicely.
Cc @Saregama I found an Indian- style Chow Mein on this menu in Vaughan. Too far north for me, they have some veggie dishes, @mrsleny .
Most dosa places I checked serve Schezuan Dosa.
I haven’t looked for the Udupi Pizza yet.
I am trying Kalyug on Dundas West tonight.
Here is the veg tandoori platter from Kalyug. I bought it so I’d have some leftovers on hand.
It comes with 2 chutneys.
Everything was quite good, although on the heavy side. I have about 3/4 left for the next couple days. LOL
I’ll try something else next time.
They make a good mango lassi. A little different than most I’ve had, as bits of dried and candied fruits were added. Nice people working there.
Thank you!
You’re welcome
That tandoori veg dish looks messy delicious.
Someone on Reddit likes the butter chicken at Samrat.
Rooh on College, between Clinton and Grace.
Prix fixe menu? Armchair chowhound here so hope this is not silly a question.
I see 3 courses listed in website menu.
I guess it’s a bit like a Thali prix fixified!
I will take one for the team if they offer take-out.
I’m glad it’s a novel approach. It replaces By Aanch, which was the fanciest Indian option in Little Italy.
