I enjoyed a take-out Mumbai Sandwich ($12) , which was grilled, and an Indian iced coffee ($5) from Thindi Cafe on College near Bathurst today. I will be back to try more.

They also sell dosa, idli, vada pav and Maggi noodles.

The prices on the site are a little out-of-date. Most sandwiches are $12 or more.

BHKRoll chicken biryani on Friday here. Mildly spiced with whole cloves and cardamom, cinnamon bark, toasted almonds and sultanas. Smelled very fragrant. Under the rice was a whole thigh and a chicken leg, and some soft
potato wedges . A very generous portion and, since we share, was definitely enough for a lunch for two. Decent, not amazing but better than many biryanis I’ve had. $15 or thereabouts

My Curryish experience coming up. Invited my nieces for a birthday brunch and the youngest recommended Curryish. I have a reputation for being “fussy” - I say discerning - and everyone defers to my choices so I’m thrilled when someone takes the lead.

We each ordered things to share and first had two appetizers - sliders and some oysters with chutney toppings. They were OK. I’m not a big eater, could have stopped there! Our brunch mains were the Maharaja breakfast - Full Maharaja Breakfast, Fried eggs, lamb sausage, chickpea masala, garlic roti $25 a bit expensive, enjoyed the potato the most - Chili Avocado + Curried Hummus Paratha Raita, spiced almonds, tamarind $19 - this sounded lovely and fresh but was quite dull, missing the mark and where was the raita? - and a gunpowder pork (not listed online for a description but around $23) - which was also OK. I’d say nothing was delicious, all was just fine, and I’d have liked there to have been a bit more flavour variety as I couldn’t say any of them had any taste difference. Again was OK but not going back.

Which dishes are you ordering at Pukka?

I have been 3 times since it opened, but I haven’t visited in 5 years.

I still have to try the Curryish Brunch.

We haven’t had much we didn’t like. The lamb lollipops have been around for years and are always enjoyable. The okra fries are also a favourite.

I recall reporting the brunch experience in December but by all means form your opinion after trying it. The owners seem very dedicated and are pushing a lot on all social media platforms, we all have our own taste buds so what you might like might be different from someone else.

Yep, I remember it now that you mention it.

I do sometimes still check out brunch places when reviewers I trust don’t like places very much.

I check out almost every brunch place eventually.

I also can’t travel to the UK. I see Curryish as Queen West’s Dishoom facsimile.

Here is another Indian fusion brunch I have not tried, which came up with a Google search.

Following up on an in person visit I ordered from cumin kitchen again. Malai Tikka Didn’t disappoint the portion is generous (take note bhoj who seem to be cutting down for a while). I ordered a side of biryani as well that I will report back later. I preferred this place for delivery as opposed to dining in unless you are in the area. Delivery took a bit of time but to be fair the person was coming in on the parking lot that’s Bloor Street!

Plans out it Scarborough gave us an excuse to try Hopper Hut at Ellesmere and Kennedy. We have had very little Sri Lankan food exposure and had never had hoppers (bowl-shaped crepes made from fermented rice flour and coconut), so this was new territory for us.

Hopper Combo 2 - gave us one egg hopper, one milk hopper and two plain hoppers, served with one of two sambals. We got them with the coconut version and ordered a side of the onion version to try it also. The hoppers were light and airy, with a faint sour tang. The egg version had a steamed and still runny egg in the middle. The milk version had a slightly sweet cooked down milk custard. Both sambals were delicious, with complex spicing and mild-to-moderate kick.

We also ordred a lampries (lamprais) with mutton. A base of samba (almost spherical short grain rice) was festooned with smokey caramelized eggplant with mustard seed, chunks of potato, a boiled egg, pickled acharu (various vegetables), fried anchovies, lentil curry, and somewhat tough but flavourful mutton, all wrapped in banana leaf.


For dessert, we tried the Ice cream with wood apple, mainly because we had never heard of wood apple. The ice cream itself was generic vanilla. The wood apple was a paste with a grainy texture that of pear. The flavour was an appealing mix of lemon, apple, sour cherry, and dried dates.

The other best thing at that corner is Highland Farms. My favourite produce section east of the SLM. Many days it’s actually better. I wish all grocery stores were like them.

Ordered from Karahi boys today as the go to place was having issues with the delivery app.
Had the malai boti very average smaller portion as well.
Bihari kebab - good
I usually the namesake dish but with the promo bihari kebab is a repeat

Dosas at 277 Wellington at Blue Jays Way a block north of the SkyDome. I have not been.

We tried it a couple of years ago. The cilantro mint masala dosa was tasty, but oversalted. The rava paneer was also oversalted, but otherwise had lots of rich flavour. Better was the podi uthappam, the idly plate, and the madras fried rice. Gobi chettinad (cauliflower with ginger and raisins) was also very good.

Only a few dishes are Uttarakhand style. Maybe some specials will be regional. I won’t bother ordering Vindaloo, tandoori, butter chicken or tikka masala from a place that’s got some northern regional dishes.

I think the UK in the restaurant’s name is for Uttarakhand and not United Kingdom.

Stopped by Kohinoor in Little India today. Continues to be a vyer nice shop for spices and ingredients. Saffron costs $3.99 for the smallest packet, half the cost of the same packet at Carlo’s House of Spice and at Sanagan’s. No photo of the saffron. They have 3 sizes available.

I guess this would fall under this category. Had a meal catered for a landmark birthday for friends. BHK roll was the choice as had performed well in the previous large event when the chef had a restaurant.
Very reasonably priced
Had the following
5 Bean salad
Vegetable croquet
Raita
Chicken and vegetable biryani
Paneer khadai
Chicken korma
Assorted breads
Chicken kebab
Mango lassi


A mix of guests so had a appease all palates and it went really well
This was a very nice menu provided it was being catered

Ordered from bindia bistro by the st Lawrence market for delivery.
I recall enjoying my dine in experience from a while ago.
Had the chicken tikka it’s similar to cottage cheese among the places I tried recently. Comes with salad side as well.
Ordered a chicken biryani for another day. They somehow didn’t have the malai chicken for delivery or maybe I missed it as recall liking it a lot
