Recommended Pakistani/Indian/Desi food spots in Toronto GTA

Ahhh I get it. My only real experience with Indian is Udupi Palace and various buffets many moons ago.

Feel free to take one for the team! Since I mostly eat vegan I live vicariously through these discussions. :joy: .

Thank you! The quinoa chaat sounds delicious. I love the vegan House Chaat at Dishoom in the UK.

Tried dil se by delivery. Had the Malai tikka. Decent with a promo I think. Not as bland though I still prefer bhoj.
Side of paneer is home made and mango chutney is from trusty old Shan company

Very good.

I didn’t try the desserts.

Trying out the newly relocated " The Host, Richmond Hill "

Starting off with a couple of take-out dishes:

  • Nalli Nihari Gosht ( Northern Indian Lamb Shank Curry )

  • Rajasthani Goat Masala ( Baby Goat Curry )

Pretty tasty but

a touch one dimensional. Wish flavour profile could have more depth and complexity.

This was a botched delivery from Karachi karahi. I think this is one of those combo kitchen location which offers items from various spots (I couldn’t locate a restaurant from their address on delivery app.)

The containers were almost destroyed some of the food survived. Hmmm more like catering style food with spices held back. Had the malai Tikka and reshmi Tikka (usually they are used interchangeable so a bit confusing) hmmm filler on low prices I guess.

Minor/major update on Karachi karahi. Ended up throwing most of the leftovers (usually the case for catering leftovers imo) as it was almost inedible. Ordered a fresh karahi from trusty old karahi boyz which is dependable I guess. Went well

By no means cheap eats, but was rather impressed with Bar Goa. Was with a group of 8 so tried several dishes and on balance I liked most. I loved interpretation of Chaat/Pani Puri. Great attempt at Prawn Balchao (if this is a dish you eat at home, your “grandmother/mother/aunt” probably made it better. We also enjoyed the lamb chops, chicken tikka (juicy) and shrimp curry. I will go back and try more seafood and vegetables.

It’s expensive though and some may not get past that.

Ordered from bhoj again and had to order butter chicken as well as guests wanted it. The malai Tikka is very good as usual though the butter chicken is sad reflection from the one they started out with. I am taking sweet finish and mini pieces of chicken. I should stick to the biryani and grilled items I guess

Ordered from cumin they don’t have the malai Tikka anymore so ordered chicken Tikka and palak paneer delivery took so long almost lost my appetite. Hmmm should have stuck with bhoj this time as they are close by relatively speaking

We had our favourite Indian in the area previously mentioned above and by local food writers. BHK Roll [http://bhkroll.com/] really punches above its weight even though it’s in a food court. And you don’t have to pay sit down prices nor service charges. Just good food at good prices.

We had the gosht nizami (lamb) and old school vegan. Always delicious, good spicing, and less oily than other places in the same price range. We came early so the tandoor (hence roti) was not ready yet so we had the paratha instead. Should probably arrive around noon next time. Always huge portions so we had to take the leftovers back.

We’ve ate here many times but this is the first time the chef asked us to leave a review on Google (which unfortunately we don’t post on). Hope he’s doing ok though as there has been a few changes in the food court.

a lot of businesses have been asking me to post on Google lately. I post here and in FoodTalkCentral, and occasionally Reddit, then send the business the links to what I wrote through Instagram.

I have reported fake outrageously positive Google reviews 3 times for a particular non-resto business professional who has affected my life negatively, who probably should be reprimanded by his profession’s association. Google has done nothing to take down these obvious shills. That’s the main reason I won’t post Google reviews. What’s the use of my genuine review if it’s right next to a review that’s an outright lie?

Good for you! It’s so hard these days to know whether reviews are fake or not. I don’t trust Google reviews. I often suspect 5 star reviews for new businesses are from friends and family.

Someone close to me always has said if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t!

I write Google reviews sometimes but try and make it useful for both the business and customers. I will include comments which hopefully make it clear I was a paying customer.

Somewhat a bigger gathering and the delivery was from the cottage cheese as the guests wanted to try it out (Michelin featured has it’s perks I guess)
Okra fries
Chicken Tikka
Shrimp malai
Chicken chittani (dairy free)
And rose paneer.
Okra and Tikka are good. Chittani has a decent kick other two were quite bad imo. We are talking something from a jar level curry! I would have picked bhoj any day over this spot but their choice and somewhat pricey too boot as well.
