Today’s pickup was from Dear Grain as was visiting ossington strip which seems to have been stripped bare with all construction on the street
Picked a few items. So far scone and custard elderberry are below average. The bread looked decent but they don’t slice it so maybe when I have more room in the freezer

The Dark Horse on Geary had at least a dozen items from Dear Grain available today.

Oh OK I walk by their bay/college location often and to tell you the truth it has never appealed to moi. I felt they appeal to a certain taste profiles as some of the friends who enjoyed the desserts there don’t share the similar taste for desserts. Hmm maybe will try in case of a dessert emergency otherwise still a pass for moi.

I toured some bakeries today, stopping at Le Genie, Kiss My Pans, Bakery Pompette, Bricolage, Tsuchi and Ba Noi.

My vanilla flan at Le Genie (the only sweet I tried today)

Kouign Amann from Le Genie, which I did not try.

Counter at Le Genie. Sandwiches looked good.

Baked goods at Kiss My Pans on College St, which I did not try.

I bought seeded bread and a quiche at Bakery Pompette, which I have not tried yet.

Photo of the baguettes at Bakery Pompette which I didn’t try yet.

Rhubarb Danish from Bakery Pompette, which I did not try.

I also bought a curry bun from Bricolage, and freshly ground coffee from Ba Noi.

No good photos from Bricolage , Tsuchi, or Ba Noi.

Tried le genie peach Danish and blueberry tart (no pic)
Danish is decent and blueberry tart is quite overpriced imo for what you get.
With the promos I guess I can justify buying these

A wonderful Trio from DUO!!

In addition to " Hazel ( round ) " and " Rockee ( oval ) ", two of my favorite dark chocolate and Hazelnut French pastries in town ( which I’ve previously introduced and covered ).
My selection today, to satisfy my sweet tooth craving, also includes their NEW creation ’ Claire '! ( Almond shortbread crust, filled with honey crisp apples cooked in vanilla & calvadose, yuzu whipped ganache, yuzu ganache, and yuzu cremeux
Wow!! Wow! Wow! Soooo f@#%&^%^ good! This must rank as one of my MOST favorite apple pastry dessert of all time!! Amazing taste and contrasting texture! Bravo to Eric the chef!!
😋😋😋👌👌👌👍👍👍

" Patisserie Fleur , Markham " - French pastries ranging from Fabulous to Fair to Flawed!

The Mango mousse cake was superb and highly commendable! Light, fluffy, delicate, very perfumy and not overly sweet. 😋👍

The Hazelnut and Caramel Mousse cake was fairly tasty and enjoyable except lacking in textural contrast. The pieces of hazelnut scattered on the surface should have done the job but sadly, the pastry chef did not roast and crisp them up. The resulting chewy effect created an unattractive mouth feel instead.😒

I had high hopes looking at the visually attractive Apple dessert. Initial bite exude a nice, aromatic apple-cinnamon taste profile. Sadly, it quickly transformed into an overly sweet and cloying aftertaste inside the mouth. What a pity! 🙁👎

IMHO, Duo still stands head and shoulder above all patisseries north of the 401.

" Flor Cake Studio, King’s Square, Woodbine/16th Ave., Markham " - Trying out a new product from a newly found ‘Mille-crepe’ specialist

Dark Chocolate, Hazelnut Mille-Crepe. A pleasant and enjoyable, not overly sweet dessert. Creamy, smooth Chocolate and Hazelnut Praline filling paired with a delightful, slightly chewy texture, originates from the multi-layered thin crepe.

Nadege had promo today and got lucky as they ran out of my selection so ended up getting your Fraisier. Will report back after I have tried it with friends

Looks good!

I bought 2 Crèmes Caramel at Bakery Pompette today, as well as some leek and goat cheese quiche. Looks like Bakery Pompette is open daily.

Bricolage is open Thu to Mon.

I didn’t buy any sfogliatelle at Barocco X Nino. I took a photo.

At Barocco X Nino I bought some pizza by the slice, and a meat lasagna for later.

OK reporting back on the Fraisier. Decent but I wouldn’t order again. The crumb (I think its marzipan) on top gives it a bit of texture and elevates it over the mundane offerings elsewhere. I think someone on this forum is a fan so by all means give this a try.

I haven’t tried their Fraisier.

I have only tried Thobors’ Fraisier which has no almond or marzipan.

Roselle has Fraisiers and some other strawberry specials right now. I’ve
never ordered any strawberry desserts from Roselle. I’m rarely on King E these days.

Well I used to be a Roselle fan but I can’t recommend much there except their cakes and some collaboration cookie sets (which have gone up in price exponentially) Their strawberry soft serve is OK just because the strawberries are decent main soft serve is mundane IMO. Pavlova for dine in is just a variation of what’s in season somewhat, add that with very inaccessible hours my trips there have become few and far between.

To be honest, I never go east of Yonge unless I’m meeting friends on a patio in East York or Leslieville. The main place I revisit on that side of the Don River is Le Conciliabule.

There are enough good bakery options west of Yonge Street for me.

The banana creme eclairs are still my reason to go to Roselle. Had them a couple of weeks ago and they are still great.
