Pizza: Frozen vs. Homemade vs. Pro made

Pro made, frozen, and cooked at home …

(I am intrigued, but we don’t eat that much pizza and have a small freezer.)

I’ve had Malnati’s a couple times, but it wasn’t my thing. But Pequod’s looks good to me and I mean to try it next time I’m in Chicago - have you been?

You guys aren’t talking about this Gino’s as real pizza, are you?

Oy !

Okay. Because the Gino’s I grew up with in Arlington had only one strong point - they were open two hours later than Pizza Hut.

Gino’s tried to compete with the “Rock ‘n’ Roll” McDonalds

that we sadly learned is no longer:

I think it all depends on the situation. Sometimes I just want this frozen pizza with any soda and watch TV shows or play PS.

I haven’t been to Pequod’s but I have heard good things. Maybe next trip. Malnati’s was stellar as usual last night, and we got a small one to eat cold on the road today too! Crust shot:

We just tried the frozen Cape Cod Cafe frozen bar-style pizza mentioned upthread for a quick weekday lunch.

The pie looked better than it ate.

I followed the directions for reheating in a 450F oven. The texture seemed off somehow, but what was I expecting? The flavor was satisfyingly mushroomy and the cheese was gooey, so points for that. I won’t put this pie on my shopping list though.

Perhaps not enough (cheap) beer was consumed prior to and during pizza consumption.

Cape Cod pizza is bar pizza after all.

Exactly! You guessed the error of my ways.

The concept of “drunk food” was something I doubted at first, but clearly there are right foods for right occasions, and being drunk is no exception. There are foods more suitable for “breakfast”, or for “snacks”, so why not for “when drunk”?

The only problem is that there are things other people classify as “drunk food” that I know I like when I’m not drunk. I guess my standards are too low.

Don’t let other people define you.

Footnotes?

Consider omelets for dinner. Pizza for breakfast. Leftover chicken marsala for an afternoon snack. Chips, salsa, crudite, and dip for dinner.

What kind of footnotes? Are you trying to document “Strategies for remaining drunk and still remembering to eat”?

That there are foods more suitable for one meal than another.

It’s merely customary, that’s true - but it’s hard to deny that people mostly continue to make customary choices. It’s partly due to ease and speed of preparation; it’s a rare person who wakes up and decides to start making lasagna bolognese for their breakfast.
