I was a little concerned on passing by and perusing the menu on the window that their offerings are extremely expansive. Glad to hear the the quality is good.
Tragic news: Peach Farm in Chinatown is closing. See their FB page:
Facebook
That is tragic. It was one of the first places I went when I moved to Boston. Always enjoyed it.
A posting from the Boston Restaurant blog says that this is not true. Peach Farm is undergoing a change of ownership but is not closing.
so itâs one of those true/not true situations. Some restaurants undergo pretty significant changes with new ownership, which could be the equivalent of it closing. That said, I hope not, I always enjoyed Peach Farm. I guess time will tell . . .
I do hope the new owners give the interior a little refresh, that might not be such a bad thing!
Well less than a year after this:
it appears that Nine Winters is closing this weekend. The owner pleads family reasons, but they never quite had the cult status in this location that theyâd had previously. The shop generally had only a few people in it. As for me, their offerings skewed too heavily to the sweet for me to make more than occasional use of them.
I stopped in a Nine Winters once sometime last summer, purchasing a black sesame choc chip cookie and a gochujang sticky bun. Both were fine although I wasnât knocked out enough by them enough to ever returnâŚ
Peach Farm was a staple in the 80s/90s and even very early 2000, but I havenât eaten there in the last 20 years because so many good Chinese restaurants have opened up closer to home that didnât require the parking nightmares of Chinatown. Sad to see them have to move on, but theyâve had a super long run. Guess a change isnât a bad thing and hopefully itâs for good (aka retirement, etc).
Iâm curious as to their next chapter, as Iâve also read that that new owners might want to keep things similar but also that they might want to modernize the menu. I hope things work out well and the quality stays top notch.
I see now their post says âthis will most likely be the last month of us running Peach Farm Restaurant.â So, they didnât make it clear at all, but I guess they are saying Peach Farm will still exist, but they will no longer be running it.
Onions, I just heard from my neighbor yesterday (who is a Select Board member in Arlington) that Arlington will be getting its first McDonaldâs sometime this summer. Spring Onion was thrilled by this news. I was decidedly not.
Gah. Iâm with you. The fewer fast food places, the better. Too bad a little pub joint couldnât go in wherever the McDâs is going. Unless thereâs little to no parking and itâs more of a drive-through.
I might finally try the filet oâfish that everyone seems to talk fondly about. Or, hell, maybe the Big Arch?
Fast food burgers (McDâs, Wendyâs, BK) just sit like a lead balloon gut-bomb in my belly. Havenât had one in years and years. Had to go look up a Big Arch - yeah, Iâm a no with onions on burgers (especially raw ones). Hereâs some notes from a review, linked below.
âThe burger features two Quarter Pounder patties, slivered onions, crispy onions, three slices of white cheddar, and a brand-new Big Arch sauce on a sesame-and-poppy-seed bun.â
and âIn New York City, a single Big Arch costs $10.19 before tax and clocks in at 1020 caloriesânearly twice as much as a Big Mac!â
Calorie-wise, itâs another no from me, dawg. LOL As for the Filet-O-Fish - I can make a reasonable facsimile at home. But then again - I donât eat out anywhere near as often as many HOs do.
and then thereâs the sausage egg biscuit. i never pass up a change for one, but itâs rare that i can get there before 10:30, when breakfast ends (which is good:).
as for everything else, they can keep ot!
noooooooooooooooooooooooo
Arlington is not the demographic I would have predicted for a McDonaldâs. Where is it going?
Yet the McDonaldâs in Davis Sq Somerville closed over a decade ago so there is always hope!
Geez, I thought yâall knew me better by now. I didnât have the mental capacity to be more creative this year but I guess it doesnât take much to fool my fellow GBA Onions! I thought I was laying it on a bit too thick with the Big Arch comment. Tagging @Vecchiouomo because he and I love a good April Fools Day joke. ![]()
A reminder of my recent pranks so you âwonât get fooled againâ as The Who suggest:
PS Bâs April Fools joke to me was, âdude, did you hear that Trump had a heart attack?â I let loose an expletive and ran to my phone to his great amusement. And Spring Onion covered up my old-school optical wired computer mouse with a sticky-note before school this morning so when I sat down to work, it wasnât tracking at all and took me a minute or so to figure it out after more expletives. Heâs gonna hear about this at school pickup today. Wicked hilarious guys.
I had not registered that it is April 1.
Gotta admit, I fell for it hook, line and sinker.
