Oh that really makes me sad…And I guess I am surprised because they’ve been doing gangbusters in terms of business from what I’ve seen. Maybe they’re putting all of their efforts into Modine right now?
just had a REALLY great burger from Triumph. They have a special menu at present. All items under 12 bucks. 64oz growler of beer discounted to $15, $12 if you order with food (they provide growler). So we did.
Burger was one of best I’ve had recently.
As expected Modine is closed as well. They state that they will put their efforts into a full time donation and food prep center for Asbury Park Dinner Table
should mention it’s a bacon cheeseburger that tops the menu $$ at 12 bucks. CJ- feel like this is up your alley!
As I suspected… good for them! The AP Dinner Table received a $12,000 donation today, which is phenomenal – but it also means they’re going to need a lot more hands to prep meals!
How was the city cocktail class?
Fun! There were 85 people online (mostly two per screen, so it was a crowd! Pip and Jamie from Laylow led us through four different cocktails while we all drank along at home.
I might have to try that!
curious to hear your thoughts if you do man! was good deal to me…burger was really solid and 64 z of beer for 12 bucks!!
I took advantage of Mezza’s 20% discount today. Below is a link to details and pictures.
From Nicholas just now on FB:
We really do have the greatest customers on Earth. In just a few days, you all donated over $20,000 to our staff. I received so many emails and texts from customers explaining that my email (about laying off the entire staff) “made it all so real”. My staff thanks you, I thank you. THEY WILL BE FINE, with all your support.
I intended on continuing the NICHOLAS TOGO take out dinners throughout this nightmare but circumstances have changed. Now, I have to side with caution. There was too much interaction with too many people. Ultimately, I just felt it wasn’t safe for my staff or my customers.
NICHOLAS WINES will CONTINUE with strict protocols to protect everyone involved. We are strongly suggesting selecting our VAN DELIVERY option. We will leave the wine on your porch and send a text/voicemail when we leave your order. If you prefer the PICK UP option, you will come to the locked front door of the Restaurant and follow the marked instructions. Please all be safe, be smart and oh… keep ordering from Nicholas Wines.
I don’t know who Nicholas is but am impressed that he recognizes just how serious the pandemic is. I’d be more than happy to buy wine from him. That we can so easily get meals to take out concerns me. Restaurant workers cannot keep 6 feet away from each other. Nor can patrons as they wait to pick up their meals to go. Not all restaurants maintain high levels of sanitation and that’s more critical now than ever. Yes, I know restaurant owners and workers are hurting but is the best way to support them encouraging them to remain open? No easy answers but cooking at home and sending $ to restaurants we like to help the workers of a closed restaurant might be a good solution for many of us.
I love to eat out so staying home is a bit difficult. I don’t want this to last indefinitely but if folks continue to think social distancing is for other people, we’ll be looking at a very long time before we get back to normal, whatever normal might look like. And, I’m not talking about just the food industry but wherever people naturally congregate - beaches, parks, shops.
I know some HOs will disagree with me and that’s ok. Please keep an open mind. The doctors, nurses, hospitals and all in the medical field would be grateful if we stayed home as much as possible.
Well said @carolina1
Nicholas is a caring and concerned human being and he’s doing the right thing. From my first impression years ago to my last visit in February, my too few personal interactions with the man always reinforced my belief in his character.
As for my own character. I am not as good a human being as Nicholas. In my lust for our local culinary creations I have been out almost every day. Don’t think for a moment that I didn’t consider my actions carefully, but in the end my stomach won out. Today I will not give in to temptation.
I’ve already given to help the people and places I love in other ways than buying their food, but the crisis is still young. I hope my resources allow me to continue helping as we get through this. For today at least I will try to be more like Nicholas and stay home.
I look forward to the day we as a nation can emerge from this chrysalis. I anticipate more good food eaten out in our future.
I saw Alfonsos is shutting down after today. If anyone wants to support a great bakery and maybe stock up on some treats today would be a good day to do so. they also have curbside pickup- in fact that’s what they prefer per FB. Hoping to grab a cpl delicious loaves of Italia bread myself today.
Question for the group: anyone know of a service similar to what local 130 seafood is doing but for meat? I placed an order for fish earlier today and it will arrive tomorrow by the afternoon. That’s incredible!
Have you checked with Fossil Farms in Boonton?
I’ll also ask my chef pal and will report back!
