A few frozen pizzas I hadn’t tried before:

As with most of the “premium” pizzas I’ve tried, the Porta pepperoni and Porta mushroom pizzas are better than most but not enough better to justify the price. DiGiorno wood-fired Italian meat trio is pretty good, not so much for the flavor but texture of the crust is good for a frozen pizza. And then there’s the Tombstone french fry crust chili cheese pizza. I didn’t like it very much. Neither the chili nor the cheese flavor was strong enough to suit me. The french fry crust was sort of potato-y but not much like french fries. I bought the loaded bacon cheddar version, too. I’m thinking that one might be better, but it’s still sitting in my freezer and not tempting me much to try it.

I will never understand folks who fork over that kind of cash just for the sake of convenience.

I got some Midtown Italian pizza crusts and built an excellent pie on one last night. It was good enough it might replace cacio e pepe as the definitive quick, easy, comforting meal. I used my standard no cook sauce (crushed San Marzanos in my hand and added olive oil, a little red wine vinegar, dried oregano, black pepper, salt, and pepperoncino). A few slices of provolone stagianato and some grated mozzarella.

This is an 80 calorie sugary instant chai that I’m loving. It contains some milk. I see it as an alternative to instant hot chocolate, instant apple cider or instant ovaltine.

Not a substitute for a really good $7 masala chai at a nice Indian resto or coffee shop.

I like it a lot more than a Starbucks Masala Chai Latte, and more than a Tim Hortons Masala Chai Teabag Tea with milk.

First time to try Pingue’s Abruzzese Salami. It’s really good.

Stuffed Mushrooms - Giorgio brand - website says tray is microwave safe, back of package only gives oven directions and says STRONGLY that you need to not use the tray in the oven. I convection baked on a metal tray and was pleased with how quickly these heated. Artichoke/spinach/cheese filling had good texture, but I’d add some garlic salt or a drizzle of hot sauce to boost flavor for us next time.

I have never mustered the energy to make stuff mushrooms. These might be a gateway fungus!

I am finding that I like it better chilled (or maybe I just like eating out of the refrigerator). It sits over on the edge of a shelf and I keep forgetting it’s there and using it.

Acquired at a Japan Food Fest in LIC. I wasn’t sure whether these were sweet or savory, but broke them out to have with cheese.

They are a good vehicle, as they have no personality of their own. And that’s fine!
