I later see that she is GI.
I’ve never tried a Gluten-free mac and cheese but maybe I’ll make one for my neighbor and try it.
This recipe looks good. I might make a leaner variation tonight, with milk.

a few newer ideas for Boxed Macaroni and Cheese hacks:
I am going to try the sour cream and taco seasoning.
I have tried the black pepper, Parm and peas, as well as the truffle oil before.
Chorizo Mac & Cheese is one of my favorite ways to dress up box Mac & Cheese.
Did you see how I added a bunch of mixed veggies on the plate to give the illusion this meal was healthy??
And yes, I sopped up the extra fat with a piece of bread, definitely not healthful, but so tasty!!
I used to doctor up the blue box in my single days with well-seasoned chicken breast, red pepper, and shrooms, plus probz a shot of hot sauce.
But I also happily ate the unadorned leftover m&c the kids my friend babysat wouldn’t finish.
That cheese powder is like crack. I wish they sold it separately.
They do… One of the new Grocery Store Chains (Aldi or Lidl) has a Bulk Food Section and they sell that cheese powder in bulk – just scoop out how much you want.
I saw it on youtube, but I don’t have either of those chains near me.
Hmm. No bulk food section at our Aldi. Maybe Lidl?
I could google it…
Cheese powder is sold by King Arthur, and other vendors.
Yes… the youtuber named “Frugally Delicious” used to make a quite a few low cost meals with the cheese powder she purchased in bulk.
I can’t replay the video to find the store name, as she took down her channel. If memory serves, it was one of those two that had a bulk food section with that cheese powder.
Since I can’t get that cheese powder, I do purchase canned cheese sauce at my local Dollar Tree. It isn’t a great substitute, but it (kind of) works.
Yah, but is it the same or as good as Kraft? Apparently, a company named “Kerry” bought the cheese powder.
I would shprinkle it over popcorn. I haven’t really thought of all that many uses beyond that. No doubt it would last forever here ![]()
Cheese powder is definitely a staple at Bulk Barn and other Bulk stores in Ontario.
This bulk place in Toronto, The Source, is my current favourite place for bulk ingredients. It might cost more than Bulk Barn or Bulk Barrel. It’s unbelievably clean inside the Source stores. Bulk Barn on Bloor, not so much. (That Bulk Barn still serves a purpose, I just wish it was kept cleaner)
That sounds really good!!
If Lidl has it, then just get a small amount and try it on your popcorn – if it works – bulk purchase!!
Unfortunately, no Lidl here — yet we have two Aldi branches at each end of town ![]()
There is an Aldi on the other side of Phoenix – near one of Sunshine’s doctors. She only goes to that particular doctor once a year, so we try to hit it on the way home. I don’t remember if they had a bulk section or not.
Next time we go, I’ll take note.
If they did, I would think it would be in every branch, but maybe there’s an east/west divide, similar to the OG German chain (which is divided north/south).
I picked up a non-Kraft brand cheese powder once to add to our spice rack. Daughter and I agreed it didn’t satisfy like the Kraft powder. Too bland. My hack would be to wait until my local Grocery Outlet reduces their standard size box (7.25 oz) to something like 25 to 50 cents a box (it happens) and stock up for the powder. I think each box includes around 2tbsp of powder
It’s Kraft or nothing. I wonder if a place like Ocean State Job Lots might carry it.
