Lunch 2024

Three days later…I found the deceased fly. Now I know she didn’t ‘consume’ it.

Parker eats so many house flies I think I should have named him Renfield.

When Finn catches them in mid-air, he swallows them whole. Last time, I went and put my ear to his belly. Yup, could still hear it buzzing.

Death By Kitty Gastric Juices.

Fridge clean-out salad as we’re leaving for two days: butter lettuce, half of a red pepper, a quarter of a cuke, and a few baby bellas sautéed and hurled atop.

I love salad.

it looks nice. I was curious about the dressing. The white sauce looks to have a runny texture. Is it maybe…mayo…and water from the veg maybe? or another dressing?

Hmmm…if the mushrooms gave off a liquid, was this used as well? or just evaporated in the pan?

I did buy butter lettuce with the intent of making a salad but its like 30F (super cold) and not really in the mood for a cold salad during this winter season. But yours look nice.

It’s Cindy’s Kitchen ranch dressing, which is hands down the best commercial salad dressing I have found. The blue cheese is also fantastic, as is the Asiago-peppercorn.

That said, I inevitably augment even The Perfect Store-bought Dressing with crushed garlic, fresh lemon juice, and parsley.

And most of the time, I make my own dressings and vinaigrettes, the composition of which will vary depending on the salad ingredients.

The mushrooms had already released their liquid and were nicely seared.

Today’s lunch was a Russian salad.

Well, Finn was quite proud of himself! Although he looked at his belly a couple of times and then at me until the thing stopped buzzing. I told him “Don’t look at me…you ate it! And do NOT throw it up!” :smiley_cat: Thankfully he didn’t.

I’ve never been successful with that request. And I note: why has no one ever augmented the standard emoji list with a barfing kitty? A regrettable oversight!

I came downstairs this morning to a couple of presents. On the carpeting, of course.

Of course. Hope you were wearing shoes. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

We have only ONE carpet in the Philly pad. Guess where most of the barfing happens?

You’d be right. The glass coffee table on top of it gives one a great view of the action, bc… have you ever tried moving a cat mid-puke?

Yeah.

Repositioning is a skill I’ve never quite mastered. I no longer have will to wall carpet, either.

Welcome home, Ma!

Today’s lunch was spaghetti and meatballs and fizzy lemonade. Sorry about the crappy lighting…

Shake Shack burger with fries. Not bad.

Yup. I’ve got about a 30% success rate, depending in how quickly I get to the offender and how far we are from the hardwood.

Of course, they tend to do this when I’m at work, so carpeting seems to be the usual choice. :::Sigh:::

“ Ritzy Palace, Woodbine & Denison, GTA “ - A surprisingly enjoyable Dim Sum luncheon

A popular Cantonese dining venue, known for its diverse daily specials that includes a nicely executed, super value-for-money Peking duck 2 ways. However, this place was very often overlooked as an acceptable and worthy Dim Sim destination for some off those so-called Dim Sum aficionados.

Glad to report that our Dim sum centric luncheon turned out to be a delightful and tasty affair, featuring some well crafted creations. Our menu included:

  • The perennial favorite and must have ‘ Har Gow shrimp dumpling ‘ ( juicy filling with nicely seasoned crunchy shrimp morsels. Acceptable wrapper, though not as thin and ductile as I like……but who in town does a good job in making this?! )

  • Deep fried Taro Puff with BBQ Eel and Avocado filling ( A wonderful, funky and exotic creation. All components were light and creamy and complemented each other nicely.)

  • Harm Shui Kok - Deep fried chewy and savory doughnut cocoon. Traditional favorites done well.

  • Pan fried shrimp and chives patties - Star of the meal, hands down winner! Moist and juicy, the crunchy shrimp and fragrant chives combined to form a flavourful umami bite.

  • Cantonese style deep fried Smelt. Crispy and crunchy, piping-hot delight. Can be devoured in their entirety from head to tail! Zero wastage and mega Calcium intake!

  • Complimentary dessert of not overly sweet, Japanese Red Bean Jello cake.

Overall, a wonderful meal. A perfectly acceptable alternative to some of those higher-end, more classy and overpriced establishments further up north in posh Richmond Hill/Markham!
