I absolutely love ketchup!!! It’s just a perfect food!
I prefer that ketchup is available, and I also like mustard, mayo, and malt vinegar as options. Surround me with condiments for my fries.
Dunno how I’d make cocktail sauce without it. And I love cocktail sauce.
Loathe ketchup but we always have it in the house because…spouse. I periodically use a tablespoon or so in a recipe but never ever plain or on fries, burgers, etc.
This is my new favorite hot sauce: I went to a Jamaican take out spot in Lancaster PA and there were a bunch of bottles of Grace’s Hot Sauce on the counter. I started talking to the proprietor about it and she gave me a bottle. Definitely purchasing when I use this up.
I was glad to read this article. There’s a lot of misinformation about mayo out there. I like it a lot, but I’m choosy about brands.
A-1 Steak Sauce is great on fries too
Good to know!
The bigger question is what condiments don’t enhance french fries.
I’ll dip em in almost anything
I like mayo and horseradish.
Lemon juice on fried potatoes for me. I like catsup/ketchup but would prefer a squeeze of lemon juice.
Mayo and A-1 Sauce mixed together on a ground chuck patty
Heinz 57 was our first barbeque sauce growing up
Cucumber-Wasabi dressing for dunking grilled cheese sammies
Ranch dressing for onion rings, breaded chicken pieces
These are in addition to aforementioned Durkee’s dressing
Vegemite (or marmite)
Pickle relish (for hot dogs) would, IMHO, not enhance french fries. Hamburger relish, which is often, though not always ketchup-based, might.
I’m almost to the point where I can’t tolerate the sweetness of ketchup. I like salt, pepper and malt vinegar on fries. Absent malt vinegar, I will dip them in Dijon mustard. We lived in the Netherlands for several years. Neither one of us ever grew fond of the gloopy, many-flavored mayos they dispensed for fries from street/market vendors. French fries, in general, are barely a food group for me - not a favorite.
It is nice to have some vinegary pop like that. Other day I picked up (99cents) Famous Dave’s Rich and Sassy BBQ sauce. Reminds me a tad of A1 but has the BBQ love added. My new fave dipper.
Hmmm, I’m not so sure. I love marmite and I use it periodically in soups and stews. Once even in mashed potatoes that needed some umami. So I’m now thinking about a poutine type of thing with marmite in the gravy…
I’ve used marmite for vegetarian gravy at thanksgiving with good results, also BTB mushroom base.
I buy this stuff by the 6-pack. It’s incredibly good. I suppose I could just mix some creamy horseradish into mayo, but why bother?
I love horseradish!
Is the horseradish strong? I’m always trying these bottled horseradish products and can hardly taste the horseradish. At this point I’m careful to look for “prepared horseradish” rather than the sauce, but where I am the bottles are quite similar.
This is the one I have right now
But I think I prefer this one
Our Safeway used to make a wonderful roast beef sandwich using a liberal dose of this and horseradish cheddar. It sure helped to clear the sinuses!
Just used some the other night on a leftover London broil sandwich! Tasty … and it cleared all 8 sinus cavities.
