It’s a 3-month stretch, so if you think you’ll be able to join in at some point over that period, join in!
I changed my vote not sure if I did it in time though.
I am absolutely excited about the prospect of a Sabrina Ghayour COTM - so if it doesn’t happen this time around, let’s remember to renominate next time.
Looks like it worked!
Will the 2025 1/4ly thread go up tomorrow? I don’t see a lot of the prior month’s threads. Am I doing something wrong or do they get archived? Would love to read the old ones from start to finish. I am VERY excited to have a COTM to participate in again. I can’t say I am that enthused about Smitten Kitchen but I do own one of her books on Kindle and I am looking forward to finding out why so many people love her so much.
I don’t know why but her books don’t excite me. I love her, love her blog, many good recipes. She tests and retests a lot. It’s good to read comments of those who’ve actually made the recipe. Her chocolate cloud cake is easy and delicious.
If you click on the COTM tag on LMM’s opening post, it will take you to all the tagged content. There is also a COTM Archive thread with links to each month/quarter’s main threads.
Voting closes tomorrow at noon. I will try to get the threads up as soon after that as I can, but things are a little busy here, so please forgive me if they don’t go up immediately.
I used to feel the same about Smitten Kitchen, but now I have so many of her recipes in rotation that I trust her very much.
I agree about blog vs book recipes. I’ve been disappointed by the ones I’ve tried from her books, but the blog used to be other people’s recipes remade by her, and those tended to work great.
I think the popularity stemmed from her friendly, casual writing style and self-deprecating honesty about stumbles and failures. She was a precursor to many folks who adopted a similar style in later years.
She has so many followers! They have great affection for her. I wish Ina would invite her to the come over for dinner show … living in NYC, not too far away! I once treated myself to a new garlic press that she recs on her site … much better than my old one. Her little girl, Anna, is a terribly picky eater. On the recipe, Buttered Noodles for Frances, there are a million comments … I read them all … and it was so interesting to read about other picky eaters.
Thank you for the tip!
When you have time please give us a list of those recipes in your rotation.
Absolutely. This list is not exhaustive, because I don’t have all the recipes in the same place. Some are print outs I’ve stuck in the book, some are in my vegetarian folder, some in my family favorites folder, etc. But here are some that have been made many times:
Chilaquiles casserole (for a few years this was Lulu’s favorite dish and she wanted it for her birthday)
quick sausage, kale and crouton saute (I use chicken sausage, and usually spinach instead of kale, which I don’t love)
sizzling beef (impossible meat for me) bulgogi tacos
golden vanilla cake (as cupcakes - always a hit)
cannellini aglio e olio with artichokes - sometimes over a piece of good bread, sometimes over pasta. So easy and absolutely delicious. One of my favorite solo meals
skillet ravioli with spinach
chicken wonton soup
skirt steak salad with blue cheese - I use flank steak instead. This is a big favorite of LLD’s
lots and lots of baked goods too.
Just want to add that the perfect blueberry muffins actually are perfect (and I don’t even like muffins very much), and that the chocolate chip sour cream coffee cake was my favorite bake of 2024. Oh, and the blueberry boy bait! Delicious.
Can I add this recipe. I have made it several times and always a hit. Most recently on boxing day when all of my family was here. Big hit. I used pork but I’m sure chicken would be fine. Quick to make
Voting is now closed, and it looks like we will be cooking from both Smitten Kitchen (website and books) and Sabrina Ghayour (website and books). Yippee!! I will have reporting threads up soon, and will post links to them here.
Her mushroom lasagna is a favorite at casa lingua.
Here are links to the two new COTM threads:
Thanks all. I am creating a list. I find the endless options (much like compendiums unapproachable.
If it is any help, I find her 2nd book to be her strongest (others may disagree). Probably just a matter of taste, but if you’re looking for one in the library, it’s worth giving it a shot.
