January-March 2025 COTM nominations

It’s nomination time for the next quarter’s COTM. The experiment of moving to a quarterly, rather than monthly, system has been successful. There has definitely been more participation, and at least one of the sources being online seems to have helped a lot. Let’s keep that in mind as we nominate this time, as I think it makes it easier for more people to participate and cook along. I’m still interested in using books too, but open to all suggestions. I’m also interested in author months, when we explore different books from a single cookbook writer. We’ll go with 2 or 3 separate threads (depending on how nominations go) for the January-March quarter. Please toss ideas into the ring with abandon – the more things we have to think about, the more interesting it will be.

To nominate, put the title of the book in ALL CAPS in the comments below. Titles not in all caps will not be counted.

You can nominate as many books/websites as you like but please nominate with the intention of cooking along should your nominee be selected.

Whichever 2-3 get the most nominations will be the books/websites we’ll cook from for the first three months of 2025. Nominations will close on Sunday, December 29th.

A list of previous cookbooks of the month can be found in our archive thread . Always remember that we love seeing old COTM threads pop up, so keep cooking from those books and websites and keep posting!

I’ll start us off:

How about SMITTEN KITCHEN? Both website and books.

I have just put together a family favorite soup from ESSENTIAL PEPIN and it occurred to me that I should delve further into the book.

SABRINA GHAYOUR month.

MAANGCHI website & books

NIGELLA website & books (I thought going back to the first 2-3 books would be the most fun if we want to restrict this to more manageable, and those should be available at libraries too)

OTTOLENGHI ONLINE & books (we could restrict to the last 2 if it’s too many)

SMITTEN KITCHEN website & books

SABRINA GHAYOUR month — at least one of her books is on kindle sale at any given time, so I have a couple, but I have yet to cook from them

If you’ve got Persiana, then you need to crack on with cooking from it. It’s a much broader “Middle East” book than perhaps the name and her Iranian heritage suggests. Really good.

Is this the first one @Harters? From 2014?

Flavour / Flavor is currently on kindle sale on Amazon US for 1.99

I would be pretty excited about RICK BAYLESS – let’s add his website for the TV show recipes

All the SILVER PALATE cookbooks.

Agreed! Also, because I believe we’ve had Mexican Everyday and More Mexican Everyday as COTM previously (not that I’d mind revisiting).

I’ll think about it!

What is the soup your family likes?

COOK’S ILLUSTRATED COOKBOOK
NIGELLA books & website

It’s such a simple soup - sausage (the chicken kind for us), cabbage, and potato. But it is so comforting and delicious on a chilly night.

I’m not afraid of redoing any old ChowHound COTMs, just so everyone knows. Lots of those books were great, and people may already own them.

I’d love to do some from before I started participating in COTM — will take a look at the list!
