Chicken shwarma over rice.

No slow cooker here, but I don’t see how this couldn’t be done in a DO on low.

Did you make Hainan Chicken Rice yet? I haven’t made it yet, but I order it a couple times a year!

Can’t believe no one’s mentioned chicken biryani:

There’s a Biryani thread:

Yes, it’s great. I just meant it was odd that biryani hasn’t come up in the International Chicken & Rice thread.

Saw arroz con pollo Colombiano on the menu at a Colombian place this afternoon, but I was dead set on ordering their tamal having seen it the previous day opposite the central market (in Valencia).

Just looked it up online, many hours later. So, like most dishes, every household has their very own recipe. Seems simple enough that I might try to make it at home. After arroz al horno Valenciano that is. I have got rice from El Palmar for this.

I find it interesting that the Carribean, Latin America, and South American, the chicken and rice main is usually called Arroz con Pollo. A variation of that dish in the States is often called Spanish Rice. It was a pretty common weeknight meal in the 1950s and 1960s, made with rice, tomatoes/ tomato sauce and chicken. There are also American-style Spanish Rice recipes made with ground beef, as well as recipes without meat or chicken. One Ohio recipe is dated 1923.

When I took Spanish in high school , there was a story in our textbooks, where a Spaniard was asked what he liked to eat, and his answer was always Pollo con Arroz. I guess what he meant was chicken with rice on the side. When I’m googling chicken and rice dishes from Spain today, most results are also Arroz con Pollo, not Pollo con Arroz.

Unlike Hainan Chicken Rice!

…..

this looks good to me

I just learned about the existence of Chicken Yassa in this thread the other day, and made it for dinner last night. I had no idea what to expect – and I wouldn’t call it a “chicken and rice” dish (we ate it with roasted potatoes), so a bit of aside for this thread – but I just wanted to say thanks for posting about it. This was one of the best things I’ve cooked so far this year. Super easy too.
