Saw this at a newish Asian market today & was curious what y’all (would) do with it, as I love all things mushroom.
Is it really a seasoning? The texture almost looks like you could use it for a broth, but perhaps someone can enlighten me

Are there ingredients listed? I had what I thought of as a mushroom powder from TJ’s and I used it in recipes calling for mushrooms because husband doesn’t like the texture of mushrooms.
Since I ran out I have considered making my own from dried mushrooms!
It looks pelletized…
Yeah, the pellet shape threw me off a bit, TBH.
If it were a powder like the TJ’s seasoning @shrinkrap posted it would be less of a mystery.
Probably synthetic. Matsutake is very expensive, and has an intense smell and taste.
You could add some to risotto, (scrambled) eggs, vegetables etc. In Japan I ate rice cooked in matsutake broth.
My first thought was to shake some on a pizza (prior to baking)??
I would first check out the sodium content before ruining anything with it. Some of those mushroom powders taste mostly of salt.
Good point…
Yup.
Used it quite a bit.
Good in eggs, oatmeal (savory), congee, soup base, and mixed into bread dough.
Does it dissolve in, say, scrambled eggs?
Yes
I like salt. I didn’t see much English on the shaker, but I also didn’t… turn it around
Next time I’m at the market I’ll see if I can find out more about the ingredients.
Salt is the first ingredient listed on the TJ product.
Yeah, I’m familiar with that powder. I wasn’t too keen on it and tossed most of it.
Do you know if there is already a mushroom powder thread? I don’t want to unnecessarily derail this one, but I’d like to learn more.
I do not. Do a search and see if there’s one already, or create a new one We have a lot of single item threads (both @small_h and I just posted our own), so I don’t see why not?
Derail away. Thread drift is a natural, organic thing that happens when people are having a conversation. Just look at the current DIY Home Improvement Edition of the Silliness & Food Funnies thread… although TBH I was getting tempted to tell @CCE and @Desert-Dan to ‘get a room’
OK, upon further consideration I think Ima pass. Thank you for posting
I found one whose title might work
Go for it!
