Healthier (however you define it) meals you've been making lately

Apparently, dim sum makes my sugar spike worse than pizza or burgers and fries! 10.3 for a few minutes. We ordered 5 dishes for 2 people, which was relatively modest dim sum order for us!

My dietician suggested I try Masala Chai after dinner,to keep me from late-night snacking.

I have been a Masala Chai drinker since 1995 or so.

Does anyone have a favourite brand or recipe? I am happy with some brands I’ve tried , just looking for something new, or something I might not know about.

I think any hot tea works, tbh. I don’t like any commercial tea bags for masala tea — I tend to grate in fresh ginger or add a pinch of cardamom.

You can also get chai masala at any indian store or store stocking indian items, or use pumpkin spice, which has many of the same spices.

Chai masala has more cardamom, and not a discernible amount of cinnamon (which is a cheap filler and overwhelming flavor in most North American chai blends and teabags).

Her idea is that the warm spices and milk would be more satisfying than a cup of clear tea. I already drink mostly masala chai, Earl Grey and hot milky coffees from Nov to April, but I hasn’t tried using masala chai as a substitute for streaming snacks. LOL.

Back before I had Netflix or BritBox account , before 2020, I used to order an Earl Grey when I went to the movies ,so I wouldn’t get popcorn. I didn’t snack in front of the tv before 2020. It has become a difficult habit for me to break.

I fell off the moderation wagon around Oct 28th (gateway Halloween candy ) , and I’m trying to climb back on.

I do have one last tin of some imported loose chai masala at my apartment, that my cousin brought me from India.

I’ve used up all my other chai masala supplies.

I bought some commercial tea bags today and an instant cardamom chai with a bit of sugar added.

Another cousin was into making her own blends in the 90s. She is the one who introduced me to it.

I added pumpkin pie spice to my coffee today , and I didn’t like it, compared to a dash of Scrappy’s Cardamom Bitters

I usually want a salty snack with chai, so I don’t know what she’s basing that on :joy:

My mom has warm milk with a bit of honey if she’s hungry before bed, it seems to sate her. I prefer plain greek yogurt, or cheese with a bit of fruit for a healthy-ish snack with protein, or some salted dry peanuts.

Chai would also keep me up, but maybe the caffeine doesn’t affect you.

I just had a mug hot water instead of my chai because I thought the chai might keep me awake. Warm water tastes oddly savory to me.

Tortilla Soup tonight


This one used homemade chicken broth, a can of Rotel tomatoes, cumin, oregano, sauteed onions and garlic, red Mexican beans , bell pepper, frozen corn, lime, cilantro, and freshly fried tortilla strips.
