Fall-Winter Quarter 2024 COTM NOMINATIONS

Let us attempt another quarter of nominations of COTM and nominate books for October, November, and December.

Over the previous quarters we tried to create a dual environment of “easy” books to increase everyday participation and “project” books for those who want the old challenge of COTM.

This fell out last quarter as two author groupings with both easy and project possibilities under both.

To nominate, put the title of the book in ALL CAPS in the comments below. Titles not in all caps will not be counted.

You can nominate as many books as you like but please nominate with the intention of cooking along should your nominee be selected.

We are running late, so nominations will close on TUESDAY OCTOBER 1, 2024 at NOON EDT.

A list of previous cookbooks of the month can be found in our archive thread .

Last quarter’s selections remain open for your participation — Pati Jinich and Andrea Nguyen.

Thank you so much Saregama! I will deal with the next round.

NEW YORK TIMES recipes appeals to me a lot.

Anyone tried GREEKISH? I bought myself a coy but haven’t even opened it.

Same with NOTHING FANCY.

I wish I could help with COTM organization and participation, but unfortunately I can’t. I used to participate actively and often…then family situation got very difficult a couple of years ago, if not longer ago than that, and my participation dropped off to ending.

Things are even more complicated now so I can’t offer nominations or vote, though I will try to join in with whatever is selected.

Thanks you, Saregama and LM for your efforts.

I can’t in good conscience nominate or vote for a book this time around. My health and appetite have been compromised in the past year or so. I will want to make one thing today and then definitely not tomorrow. I will participate if/when I can as I do love COTM.

this is a low bar for me - since I cook from it at least weekly - NYT COOKING site.
I also use Maangchi and would love to commit tocook from it but its going to be a crazy quarter…

Not nominating as of yet, but dropping as a pin/query for others’ interest: Any thoughts on Cook as You Are by Ruby Tandoh?

That link is to the Eat Your Books index, and I see there are several recipe notes from erstwhile (and missed) frequent COTM participant from the Chowhound days westminstress, which range from generally to very positive.

By the way, COTM began on Chowhound 18 (!) years and more than 200 books ago, in September 2006, after @redwood2bay dreampt it up and made it happen.

I have, but haven’t cooked from, COOK AS YOU ARE. I would love to give it a shot.

Bump for any last minute noms.

(If not we’ll skip voting and go with the NYT as a catchall and Christmas Chronicles as a seasonal bonus, plus last quarter’’a prolific authors remain available.)

This seems like a very reasonable way to deal with this. I will do a stint as coordinator for the first round of 2025, and we can see how things are going from there. I would hate to see COTM die.

Saragema, Thanks for doing this. I’ve made a number of dishes from the NYT site so should be able to participate.

I feel bad as I have 3 dishes from the last COTM (Nguyen and Jinich) that I made back in July/August but still haven’t gotten around to writing up. I’m on vacation for the next several weeks but will try to get my act together when I get back home.

Thanks again!

Enjoy your vacation!

Look forward to your write-ups when you get to them, and hope they were successful dishes!
