Everyday EVOO…

Totally agree about vetting your own stuffs. And in your case, your can makes a fabulous utensil container when empty.

because of this thread, i just picked up a bottle of COR oil at my local Home Goods. I thought to check the expiration date, and sure enough, it was this month, so I was able to resist purchasing it!

I think some Food Banks don’t take the Best By date that seriously. But might depend on where you live.

In TO, we also have community fridges, where you just leave stuff for people in the community. I’m sure some of that stuff is past it’s Use By date.

(But with olive oil, that Use By date is important. It does go rancid!)

Someone was talking about the olive oil produced in the Liguria region being superior. Probably anywhere that issues a product would boast their wares. I would say it is all a matter of taste. Honey, too.

I used to remove the top, poke holes in the bottom with an ice pick and plant herbs in them.

I get the COR, 100 California when I see it, but I often have more than I can use “fresh”. I don’t use it for every cooking prep, but I use it often.

My DIL brings me some from Turkey that she sometimes says is fr cooking or for cold. When I am “flush”, I use it everyday

I don’t know that I can usually tell one from the other, at least in cooked preparations, but don’t tell anyone.:zipper_mouth_face:

I’ll take a gander next time I’m at the store

So how much of taste is from the variety and how much is from location and soil?

Okay, nobody gag, but I just normally use whatever’s on sale, basically like Pompeian (or other mass market brand). Because of this discussion I actually looked and my local grocer carries the California Olive Ranch in 2 types, the 100% Californian at $24/L and one that’s a mix (minor amount Cali, rest AR/CL/PT) at $14/L.

I think I’ll get some of the less expensive and give it a whirl.

The cheaper global blend is actually very good and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. If it floats your boat you may wanna consider stepping up to the 100% CA (note that WalMart online has it for $14/750ML).

Thanks Scott!

Answer that and your fortune is made.

most of it is from the label on the bottle, and the cool looking insignia on the label.

Saw the 500ml, 750ml, and 1.whatever liter bottles of COR 100% at my local MB on Saturday. The largest bottle was $21.99.
