Everyday EVOO…

I also like the kalamata oil for sauteing. It’s pretty neutral in flavor. But I get the TJ’s Spanish EVOO for seasoning, it’s nice and peppery. For some reason the kalamata oil has been out of stock for quite a while, not expected to return until next month.

We like and look for Tunisian EVOO. Somehow pleases both of us. Buttery, not grassy.

I’ve noticed a strange difference between the Greek and Spanish oils. I usually put a glug of the Greek oil in the nonstick pan when I’m making an omelet. The eggs swirl around nicely. But when I ran out of the Greek, I used the Spanish, and everything stuck to the pan. They also stick when I use butter.

Nope! I’m one of those people who does not like olive oil that makes me cough, or those tyrosine crystals in cheese that make me think I just bit into some sand.

I love it for marinating, for dressing my Greek salad, sautéing… as the title says, it truly is my everyday EVOO when I can get it

Whatever is in glass bottles at Costco. Currently a Toscano PGI from the 2022 harvest.
I’ve had the California Olive Ranch and like it very much.

I use olive oil for everyday saute / frying - right up to ‘smoke the pan’ stuff.

EVOO is distinguished by very tasty but volatile compounds, which hit the tongue, but get totally wasted by heat-as-in-cooking.

my EVOO is restricted to drizzles / incorps into cold dishes.
any green salad - caprese - Cobb - n-bean salads, etc etc

I always bought the Italian olive oil in glass bottles at Costco in SF and South San Francisco. No nearby Costco has had it for at least a month and they have no idea if they will have it again. Since I will only buy in glass, I’ve been buying 365 Italian from WF and various ones from TJ.

I use it regularly and really like it. When I get to Trader Joe’s I buy stuff there that is just as good and less expensive but I’m very happy with California Olive Ranch EVOO. It used to be (I think) all California but now I believe it is more of a blend. In any case I continue to like and use it.

I LOVE the Tunisian EVOO from Trader Joe’s. Haven’t seen it in a long time.

They have both - Global Blend, and 100% California. I find it harder to find the 100% CA version.

Same here. Lately Market Basket (in Massachusetts, for those in other places) has been pretty consistent in stocking the 100% California variety of California Olive Ranch. Thanks to @ScottinPollock for originally bringing this stuff to my attention.

At MB I also enjoy Greek olive oil by Sparta Gourmet, especially if I can get their organic variety.

I usually find the large 1.4L bottles of Global Blend (soft side) at Wegmans for $18.99. I think the 1L at MB are around $23? But good to know that MB carries the 100%.

Not sure about pricing at Market Basket for California Olive Ranch oil. I buy the 500 milliliter bottle at MB. Mostly I’m in a Greek olive oil phase at the moment so I don’t have a register receipt around for a price check. Dang.

Last bottle of 100% CA (Oct-Nov 2020 harvest) I bought was $14 for 1L from WalMart online. Now it is pretty much the same price for 750ML (thank you inflation).

I usually always order WM online as they offer free 2-3 day shipping on $35+ orders, as it is 40+% more expensive at my local Safeway.

BREAKING NEWS…

New sauces, marinades, and vinaigrettes. Have no idea how good they are… (my Safeway only has a couple) but will try one or two the next time I shop.

I thought I’d snap some pix but turns out my store stocks about 15 different brands and various blends.
Now I’m more confused than ever.

The COR 100% California would be my choice. I don’t know why anyone would buy garlic oil. I would like to control the amount of garlic in my food.

I don’t know why anyone would buy blended olive oil. But I don’t drink blended scotch, either.
