Awww! I’ve bought it for about $20 some years ago, it was similar to the layout to the paper format, was happy with that, then I got downgraded to the ebook version…
What do you mean you got downgraded to the ebook version? They changed your ebook?
Before, it was more PDF like of the printed version, bigger photos, fonts looked like the ones used in book, with the newer versions update, it got “cheapen” and looks like a normal ebook with the standard ebook fonts.
That’s terrible. So much effort was invested to ‘make’ the original book. I guess they want to sell people a cheaper product at a cheaper price.
I think in recent years, most ebooks are sold much cheaper than the printed versions, compared to moderately price years before, they need to, therefore, distinguish the 2 versions and to justify the price of printed books. There are very few enriched ebooks with interactive features.
TAKE A LOOK AT: www.issuu.com
It is a digital platform for “flip book magazines”.
I have been using them for four years.
You can select free or one of their premium plans starting at 19 Euros a month …
The Mission Chinese Food Cookbook is currently $1.99 at the Kindle store:

I guess you own it, have you tested the recipes? What do you think? Most of the comments on Amazon is about the nice story telling of the restaurant origin and the lack of recipes.
I just got it, haven’t tried any of the recipes. I have been to the restaurant here in San Francisco several times and like their food though. Their mapo tofu is quite good but non-traditional, much like most of their other menu items.

As an aside to this informative thread, I want to share that the printed publications available for digital download through the free app, ISSUU, contains many cookbooks in full form for free d/l regularly. You will also find teaser sample cookbooks and links that direct you to hard copy purchases. Food magazines by the hundreds are also avail. If you have a device that is large enough to read comfortably, this app is also helpful in previewing a cookbook prior to purchase (at any price). It’s been a few years since my wife and I started using this app, and we are amazed at what is Consistently avail for free in the FOOD section. If you don’t want to d/l anything the app itself allows for favorite paging the publication virtually to view in your account forever.
