Continuing randomness [VT, Greater Boston]

OK, I can agree with that. I’ve had what I’ll call “good” and some that is totally meh with mushy lobster and overcooked mac. But I think I’d still prefer the lobster in a well made lobster roll, extra light mayo, top-split bun.

According to a recent Globe article, that is the case.

I agree. Here’s a MUCH LARGER close-up picture of the boat. Looks like the majority of it is fries in the boat, with clam chowder on top, then lobster and bacon on top of that. So you’re mostly paying $39.95 for fries. :expressionless: Ummm…NO.

It looks like AI.

Also, putting a quarter in the picture to get a feeling for the size of that boat would be helpful. What if it is just like a deck of cards??

Well, I’m sure Aramark had to create it to offer it up to TPTB to see if they’d accept it being sold at Fenway. :woman_shrugging: Guess we’ll have to see if anyone gets it and takes a picture of it. Fenway Park’s Opening Day is April 3rd.

Oh, my. I missed the clam chowder that’s part of it, too.

Yeah, no.

Some poutines are a work of art, and have to be eaten quickly while the chips are crisp, the curds are melted and the gravy is hot.

A messier soggier poutine at a pub or after the bar also can hit the spot.

Around 20 years ago, some bistros in Toronto were having a moment, making fancy poutines with quality frites, dressed with demi-glace or mushroom gravies.

And Montreal still has some over the top fancy poutines available at upscale restaurants , as well as the classics at diners and snack bars.

I don’t order Poutine often, but I can see why some people love it as a treat.

We have a few poutine threads I’ll mention here

I’ve had poutine maybe 20 times over the years; not a ton. I’ve had a couple of fancier ones, a number of mid ones…but if I’m being honest the absolute best was at 6:00a.m. at a diner after a night of clubbing in Montreal. Soggy and questionable for sure. My friends and I absolutely destroyed it. Easily one of the top 10 best breakfasts of my life

It’s good after a long day of skiing, too. I usually enjoyed it most at apres ski at a bar at Tremblant. I learned not to order it at lunch while skiing because it would make me want to take a long nap. It’s offered at ski hill cafeterias across Canada, and an especially popular lunch main for teenagers and college students.

I learned not to order Poutine at lunch on a road trip, as well, for the same reason. My cousin’s husband had to drive my car through Montreal rush hour traffic, after I had upgraded my fries to a side of Poutine at a diner in Trois Pistoles, and felt it wasn’t a good idea for me to be tired while driving.

Definitely try Breakfast Poutine some time that you’re in Canada. Hollandaise, plus poached eggs, instead of brown gravy.

Assuming websites are up-to-date, James Hook’s dine-in is showing a Regular Lobster roll at $29 and a large at $35.99. Lobster rolls outside of Boston - at the Clam Box in Ipswich, it’s $32.79; Woodman’s says “Market Price” (which is the way it’s usually seen on menus unless supply is strong). Lobster Claw in Reading is $41 for an 8 oz, $35 for a 6 oz.

So it’s still an option if you’re jonesing for a proper lobstah roll.

Row34 Seaport is currently selling theirs for $66 dollars!

And not sure that I’d trust a static ‘online menu’ for accuracy. For example, Neptune Oyster shows a lobster roll as ‘MP’ but if you try to actually order it via the online Menu for takeout, it isn’t available.

I am not surprised! I think my awesome hot lobster roll at Select Oyster was already running $32 USD in Oct 2018.

I don’t see a hot lobster roll on the current menu. Their lobster salad is $55 USD, (edit if the online menu price is correct )

I keep a running list of lobster rolls in Toronto, and some of the best ones cost $50 CAD or Market Price last summer. (Edit: some had Market Price on their online menu, but an up to date price on a separate menu for online take-out orders)

I have paid Market Price for the Au Pied de Cochon lobster roll during the summer in Montreal, and the price varies depending on how big the lobsters happen to be that day. APDC has even given me a choice of a larger or smaller lobster for my lobster roll on the past.

Which is why I said “assuming websites are up-to-date”. Can’t hurt for a_m to call before coming to Boston get approximate pricing at that time.
