Coconut Milk?

I like Grace Brand powdered coconut milk.

Thanks! I looked it up but can tell if its full fat or some variation on that. I know powdered dairy milk is often non fat. I’m guessing non fat milk stays shelf stable longer.

It’s full fat, I think, just dehydrated. I often just sprinkle it into beans or curries, as they are cooking.

I like not having to open a can, or use a whole can.

Great idea! I’ve never heard of that!

Does it taste like coconut milk when mixed with water ? - I like the idea for small amount without opening a can but I never liked regular milk powder as it never tasted like regular milk when mixed with water

I’m going to have to look for that. Do you get it atthe Asian Market in Marlboro? There are often times I’d like an extra coconut oomph with having extra liquid.

I don’t use milk powder. We kept it on hand when I was a kid. I’ve not used it as an adult.

The coconut milk powder has a lot of coconut flavour. I just add more if I want more coconut flavour. It’s a pretty common ingredient with Caribbean cooks in Canada. That’s how I found out about it.

Yes, the Asian Food Mart in Marlboro. Oddly, the one I bought comes in a can, and I don’t remember the brand (when I opened the can, I put the powder in a glass jar so I could seal it). It could be they have larger quantities in bags, but I use it in only one recipe, and then only a couple of tablespoons at a time, so I didn’t want a large quantity. YMMV.

I could have told you that too. I’ve unfortunately left a lot of coconut cream to waste, even with the best intentions. I don’t have a lot of recipes or dishes I make that use coconut milk. In fact, I had half a can that got pushed to the back of my fridge that I just threw out last week. I’ll try the freezing next time, if I have room in my freezer.

I just made a Thai curry last night, using a whole can of coconut milk

Thanks. I feel a road trip coming on.

Don’t forget that 1) the roast pork buns from the prepared food section of Asian Food Mart are pretty good, and 2) Sichuan Cottage is just a hop, skip, and a jump away.

Love those buns. I usually have to buy 2 - one to eat in the car on the way home and one to eat when i get there.

For a while it seemed like I always ended up going there on Tuesdays, forgetting Sichuan Cottage was closed. Jinli is good bit it is not SC.
