I’ve replaced everything, including all appliances and water heater at least twice. Heat pump 1x. W/d 1x. Fridge 3x. You live in a place long enough, yep. Enjoy your new stove!

We love our front loader washer (Electrolux) and have been very careful to follow all the advice in the manual. These machines are notorious for developing mold when moisture is left inside, and a lot is left inside because they extract so much water.

We take out the three piece detergent loading drawer, drain it in the sink, and let it air dry on top of the dryer, every time.

We dry out the empty drawer space, all around, every time, with a soft cloth.

We dry out the rubber gaskets at the front, every time.

We leave the door to the washer open until next use, every time (we don’t have small children or pets so this is no safety hazard).

We follow the manual instructions for how to sanitize the machine every time the “clean tub” prompt comes on.

It’s worth it to us because it is so efficient, can handle things like mattress pads and pillows and heavy bathroom rugs, and most of all, extracts so much water that the dryer time is far less. Also does great with very small delicate, handwash items. Once you get used to the routine care, it goes very quickly. And saves a lot on water bills.

And never any repair issue for years now.

Out with the old…

Empty space…(cats were closed off upstairs so they didnt get to explore)…

And in with the new!

Out of habit, I put the fork I use to smush up the cats’ food in their dishes into the sink. Then I looked at the dishwasher and said out loud “DUH Linda!” and moved it into the silverware rack.

One down, one to go.

When our top load washer went out my husband found a front load at either Lowes or Home Depot for $400+. A woman had returned the $1200 washer because of two scratches on the side. Scratches never bothered me and I said go for it. Granted I didn’t my homework. But when it took at least 1 1/2 hours to wash a load of clothes. One hour and 45 for whites/hand washables. I never could get used to it and my water bill Never Ever went down. When the front load washer finally went kaput I was like Thank You! I couldn’t buy a top loader quick enough.

Hey, I got more or less the same Maytag a few years ago. I had to wait until the first round of vaccines before letting them install it, and had to pass masks out to the crew.

I have replaced drip trays countless times AND several electric coils at least 3x since I bought the townhouse in April 2011.

I can’t wait for a flat stove top. With the 2 large burners up front where I need them!

Of course these dupes are for old school vehicles. Can’t find dupes at the scrap yard for those fancy electronic parts…they’re gone!

One of my cats cannot be incarcerated during installations, because he knows how to open doors (lever handles, all of them). He literally got on top of the guy who installed my latest hot water heater. Fortunately he liked cats.

And this is magical thinking :wink:

I think of it more as mystical, but sure.

Ours does an extra heavy duty load (meaning really heavy stuff) in 57 minutes. “Casual” for light stuff is 30 minutes and handwash is 20 minutes.

Purchased in 2014. Never a problem with the washer. It’s 10 now!

Dryer purchased same time had a few problems. Repair came in while still under warranty and explained to my husband what the issue was. My husband was able to replace the same ever-fail part twice since then with no service call.

Oh, I’ve been doing magical thinking for decades with appliances. My rule is: ok, there is a problem here. Let’s turn everything off and walk away nonchalantly. Forget an issue was apparent. Never let the appliance know you are worried or concerned. Go do something else. If the appliance knows you are concerned, it will persist.

Return after 2 hours or so having forgotten there was a problem. Turn it back on and viola, sometimes it forgets there was a problem, too, and everything returns to normal.

This often works with computers and internet connections. Less often with the big guys and you really don’t want to ignore a problem that rots out your sub floors.

With this 2014 washing machine, I’ve never had to indulgence in magical thinking. Even once.

Yes, I know this will not continue. It does sit on a plastic liner on our second floor and we never leave the house when it’s on. The dishwasher sits right on the floor. We don’t leave the dishwasher running when we leave the house, either.

Can your cat open the refrigerator? I knew one who could. She was a great jumper, obviously.

An enormous front loader (with matching dryer) came with the house, and we do the same steps after each load and haven’t had any issues in 6 years. I grew up with top loaders and didn’t have a W/D of my own until we moved to California. My wife had to tell me about how to maintain a front loader.

We had a great installer for our front loader washer from Yale Appliance here in Boston. He was extremely knowledgeable and explained and demonstrated everything about how to care for/dry out the machine and use the “clean tub” cycle. He also referred us to the manual. My husband refuses to read instructions/directions to anything because he knows better. I read the manual and remember the installer’s explanations and now after 10 years, I don’t bother to remind my husband, I just do it myself.

Both of us were very charmed when our son, adopted at age 7, as a young child called “instructions” either “destructions” or “obstructions.” Son 15 years later insists on reading, understanding, and following “instructions.”

I am in the middle of a new washer dryer purchase.

Washer, because it went out during a visit by son, and intermittently when I have help with the laundry. Strangely enough it seems to work for husband and I.

First repair person said it’s the computer board, call GE. GE said sure, it works now, but its doomed.
Getting the dryer so they match. :person_shrugging:t5:

Getting another pair of GE’s because GE guy says no one wants to repair LG’s. He says he might get a Maytag “but you didn’t hear it from me”.

We like that the latest GE has a proposed solution to front loader mildew. We can close the washer door!
They also have this smart dispense auto detergent fill thing , which supposedly leads to fewer repairs, which seems counterintuitive to me. It’s supposed to be because too much detergent is a problem.
