Funny you post this. About 3-4 months ago I wanted Little Szechuan in Little Silver, but I really didn’t want to drive there to pick it up, so off to GrubHub or Doordash I went. Low and behold there was Little Szechuan so the day was saved by (insert GH or DD I really don’t recall which one it was). I put my order in my phone, received my confirmation my order was accepted and the delivery clock started ticking.
Suddenly I realized I wanted to ask for extra pancakes for my moo-shoo so I called Little Szechaun to ask for 2 additional pancakes. When I called and explained I just placed my order from GH/DD the woman said: “We do not use any 3rd party delivery services” so I responded by saying; “I have my confirmation it says the order was accepted and will be here in 30 mins…can I read you my order so you know which one it is” she responded; “NO, you have to contact the app - we do not participate with them”…???
So I sat curious if I was going to get my delivery or what. I sat and watched my phone as the delivery time ticked down, my order was ready, my order was picked up, my order was on it’s way!!! Eye’s glued to me screen as I watched the little car avi twist and turn on the streets leading to my home…what was I going to get??? {{ding-dong}} I’m up and rush to the door like a kid on Christmas morning and sure as sh*t - there was my Little Szechaun order!! Everything besides my 2 extra pancakes.
So I was truly baffled by the entire experience…but it worked regardless if the restaurant was participating I received my order, paid my delivery fee’s and tip etc. and I was a happy camper!
Personally Greg I think we have had the discussion privately before about coming across as a bully pulpit. Let’s face some facts Zhang’s, Peter, Paul’s, Tom’s, Dick and Harry’s will all probably fail at that spot. It’s obvious they are fairly clueless.
While I agree the place / delivery person is probably breaking some kind of rule, but is it worth an entire blog post and then potentially inciting the lynch mobs that seem to take place after such a post? I would just leave it be…if I felt there was a real possibility Peter’s was going to steal business from other places I might feel differently, at this point I honestly feel sorry for the place.
Yeah, you’re probably right. I did post something but took it down after consideration. Hell, they may be one “thing” like this away from closing, and I’ll not be responsible.
The owner of the restaurant where I work refuses to work with Door Dash. Too many times orders called in and there were problems with payments, drivers, or customer service. Big headache for small restaurateurs. I am sure some love it but did not work for them.
Plus…no tip for the server or employee putting it together!
I boycott Grubhub for the reasons in the article and am disappointed to learn that I must now also boycott Doordash.
Months ago, we placed an order with Grubhub from Eastern Empire 3 in LIncroft at about 6:30. At 8, our food hadn’t arrived. The Grubhub website does not have any support other than to tell you to contact restaurant directly. I call the restaurant and of course they do not have my order. I google Grubhub’s phone number (and see dozens of results with complaints about the issue being discussed here). I waited on hold for way too long and listened to the outgoing hold message to contact restaurant directly. The Grubhub rep promised that my food was on its way. It wasn’t. Repeat same actions. It was an evening filled with aggravation. We couldn’t order food from another establishment because we possibly had food on the way. Our food finally arrived around 9:40. Bad situation for the diabetic. The Grubhub rep said they’d send me a coupon for a future purchase. In other words, “I’ll make it right, but you have to spend more $ with us.” Unfortunately, the promise of a discount on a future purchase is usually accepted as good customer service by consumers. I don’t do business with companies that offer credit on future purchases only instead of applying actual refunds.
Should we move this conversation to the Grubhub - New Jersey topic?
