Speaking Canadian is quite similar to speaking Midwestern.
I am first gen Ontarian. I lean towards being much more blunt than a typical Ontarian. It’s taken me close to 50 years to understand what Ontarians mean when they say maybe. Maybe usually means no. LOL.
I have a hard time with the “no politics” rule because everything is political. The ability to decide what topic is political and what topic is neutral is a political act, a value judgement that draws line and makes claims about the world.
I mean, I’m not saying I’ll wilfully cross lines, but just that the very premise feels flawed and kind of problematic.
Does a toaster oven count? It does a pretty poor job of toasting, PLUS as a small oven it sucks - underpowered and uneven heat distribution - and yet we keep it. I have never owned a toaster.
What’s that brown stuff under the gorgeous flower? Wait, is that…soil? I’d almost forgotten what that looked like. And flowers this time of year? Egads, you must live in a Utopia (which is definitely not Utopia, Ontario because the ground there is also still covered in snow).
The photo is from Pennsylvania. Yes, these bloom VERY early - before crocuses, daffodils, everything.

I voted on the counter, but it’s a bit hard in our house. We have a separate dedicated “No Damned GLUTEN!” toaster, too, for (now) two of my daughters. That one stays in a dedicated space in one of the under-counter spaces.
