What's on your mind? (2025) - good way to start... even if a bit early... :-)

The ultimate compliment, thank you. I am a novice gardener so any success thrills me!

Well, we just got a tornado warning :flushed:, so any grocery shopping I was about to do will have to wait
 yikes.

State College was on the national news tonight with the torrential rains you got today. Hopefully everything is OK. We’re getting that rain starting around midnight through tomorrow in New England.

Oh, wow! We’re only ever in the news for bad stuff

Some friends of ours lost power in Bellefonte, but thankfully we’re all ok — thx for checking in

There was something in my news feeds about Dollar Tree raising their prices, again. Apparently, most items are going to a $1.50 and some to $1.75.

We don’t get a lot of our “food products” from Dollar Tree, but there are a few items I get there and some cleaning products.

Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” was re-done by country singer Luke Combs and he was faithful to her lyrics, even singing “I work in the market as a checkout girl”.

The thing that hit me last year with the remake that didn’t hit me in 1988 when the original song was released, is how everyone in the singer’s life just friggin’ shit on her.

Her mom left them because “she wanted more from life than we could give”. Her dad quit working because he was an alcoholic, so she had to drop out of college to take care of him.

Her lover sees her bar friends more than she does her own kids, and never (throughout the entire song) bothers to even try to get a job, despite the singer’s betterment of their situation. All she (her partner) has to contribute to the relationship is the Fast Car.

Yet she is faithful to all of them, despite their faithlessness to her.

People make bad choices?

And I much, much, MUCH prefer the OG version.

OG means? Sorry, I don’t know. I think both are good.

Original, as in Tracy Chapman’s. The whole album is brilliant, at the tender age of 24 at that.

Don’t ask me why that is abbreviated OG vs. OR (maybe it is?) — ask a native speaker :woman_shrugging:t2:

Original Gangsta.

I originally posted a link to urbandictionary.com, but it was mangled. Go there and enter OG in the search box.

Oh, thx! So that’s how that morphed!

I’m quite familiar with the UD. On a very drunken night we made our HK buddy recite some of the more outrageous insults and (mostly fictitious) sexual acts, to roaring laughter.

None of us were familiar with the meaning of Roman Helmet prior to that evening

I taught the song as a lesson on the American Dream (or failure thereof) to Austrian high schoolers. It was fun hearing their interpretations.

OG = original gangsta.

I looked it up a long time ago, because I am many things, but hip I am not.

My thoughts driving in to work this morning:

Rainy Days and Fridays are just as sucky as Rainy Days and Mondays.

Except the words Rainy Days and Mondays made for a better song.
