Growing up, we had one in the backyard as a permanent fixture. He was a genius at removing whatever trash can lids we tried. My father called him Freddy Raccoon. To distinguish him from Freddy Squirrel, of course.
I didn’t know this was being built.
The beloved Detroit-style pizza place recently closed without a warning by the owner, who left the place locked and had his employees discover the closure when they showed up to work the next day.
The manager, who’d been putting in 80+ hours/week contacted me about a gofundme to help with medical costs for treating his CRPS and lyme disease. I shared it with a few friends via email, on my own Facebook page, and in two local food groups — one of which I run, since the place was hugely popular and he’s a sweet guy who got fucked by his former employer.
He called me yesterday to tell me that a local restaurant owner offered to cover the entire debt for him, and to thank me for sharing.
Nice to see that there are some good people out there, but it’s shameful these acts of philanthropy are even necessary.
I’m just glad I could help out.
Let’s be nice, now. We can agree to disagree, right?
Maybe this 5hread shouldnt be called whats on your mind.
Nothing wrong with the name of the thread… but we do have rules that are posted on the front opening page. We have a nice forum here, and it is nice to come someplace and not have politics shoved down our throats.
Either everyone follows the rules or nobody follows the rules.
I imagine the framers of the forum had good reason for putting these particular rules on the opening page.
Very nice work. Super nice of that other resto owner.
What is going sideways/really, really bad in the other owner’s life? The guy of the beloved Detroit-style joint, that he would just lock up like that? Death in the family?
Including you.
I mentioned nothing political in my posts.
I mentioned being laid off from various companies, but blamed no political administration nor past presidents.
Mod here with a gentle reminder to refrain from politics and personal attacks. Thanks, HOs.
Unfortunately everything is political these days. Everything in moderation
Nope. Just somebody who wanted to make money off of the back of his employees and didn’t really care much about the business itself. He also owns or runs a music venue in town.
I can’t say what’s on my mind anymore. LOL. Anywhere.
You absolutely can. We all can. And it is incumbent upon us to do so. This might not be one of the fora for it (although it would be nice if it was), but surely you have other outlets.
I have a couple people I can speak with in person.
People are very polarized up here as well.
During the Pandemic, being outspoken about a virus lost me a lot of friends and acquaintances. I am more careful with what I say and how much I say these days.
Here, online elsewhere, and in person.
I’m also concerned about Big Brother.
I get it. But (for me, anyway) at some point it became less about protecting myself and more about protecting my country. Not that I’m doing much more than mouthing off. So far.
This is what democracy looks like.
